Thousands of people have signed a petition calling for the north of England to join an independent Scotland. The demand - on the change.org website - would create a border from Liverpool in the west through Sheffield and to the east coast of England below Hull. ‘New Scotland’ would then see cities like Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle ruled from Edinburgh instead of London.
