The only time I have really been annoyed at Clyne's effort was the last game.

Other than that, I agree that his performances have been a bit off lately but mainly on the offensive end. He's put in some good tackles, and I feel like if you aren't trying that defense is the first to go. He just doesn't get to the byline that much. I've always felt that way about him. So when teams put 11 men behind the ball, he ends up in kind of a support role just hanging out as sort of a spare midfielder. And since we don't really have a right winger for him to play off of, he ends up having a quiet game.

I feel it has happened to a lesser degree with Bertrand as well. Bertrand loves getting to the byline and does it every chance he gets. And at the beginning of the year he and Tadic were playing off each other beautifully. Bertrand was looking to make that overlapping run every time, and Tadic would play it to him. Now we still get a one or two of those from Bertrand every game, but not enough, and not quite as effective.

I'd be quite happy if Clyne re-signed with us. If his recent play has put off the big teams then all these frustrating and horrible losses might end up being a blessing in disguise.

I agree. Only the last game did I really start to ask a question in Clyne.

I think Bertie has still been getting high up the pitch though, even without Tadic.hteat partnership when they were together though.

Telegraph article suggesting Newcastle and Saints are both after Charlie Austin (though the article is really more about QPR). Austin is just the kind of player we could have done with, especially towards the end of the season, but if no one else steps in (and no guarantee that won't happen) I wonder who he would prefer to play for. You'd think it was a no contest, but perhaps our fall away in form may suggest that Newcastle could be a better choice (based solely on their bigger club status). Of course....Newcastle could be relegated :) (sorry, did I smile there).

I don't think that

Elia says he would like to make his move permanent this summer. I know people are having doubts about him, but all depends on what Koeman sees. Does he think he can improve with more PL experience? Is he better than any other back up player we could afford (bearing in mind that he is already here)?

I don't think that is true, we have a couple of youngsters in the youth that could step up and do a useful job as back up. I don't rate Elia, tries hard and apart from Newcastle game he hasn't overly impressed me.
I think he will be gone.

With Elia playing as a left winger, rather than coming in to the middle, Betrand is often isolated 1v1 with an attacker and he can get round him, Clyne is more often than not 1v2 due to no right winger, but Bertrand is definitely the better crosser

Yep, excellent points. Fine margins as always! :-(

Ramirez to Inter for £5m according to the Sun. Come on they can get at least one rumour right can't they?

I really think we need a clear out this summer.
