Socialist North? Most people in the North voted Tory with the exception of South Yorkshire and the big cities. Ukip came second place in a lot of constituencies in the North as well.

Not necessarily. I voted for Yorkshire First, a regional centrist party. I was just pointing out that the North isn't socialist, at least not anymore. It's always been quite socially conservative but economically left-wing, a bit like Scotland to an extent. However, there's no real hunger for socialism anymore in the North. I think a lot of people are content with Tory policies like reducing the deficit and encouraging businesses to flourish.
Labour never had a sniff in Scotland. If Labour had won overall, it would've been: "they'll have to get into bed with SNP, which means another referendum." If UKIP won, it'd be: "they like independence so we'll get another referendum." If Lib Dems: "The name Clegg sounds a bit Scottish so another referendum." Just accept it; you're British for the foreseeable future. Let it go
