The times saying Clyne is staying.

 

I know it's the Times (and I haven't read it), but so often these things just get repeated and altered slightly as it passes through various media outlets. Clyne has said he is happy here (and why shouldn't he be) and we have stated that we are still negotiating...but there will be a lot of water under the bridge before this is settled. Remember that every player who left last summer was probably happy here.

 

The Times are repeating what the BBC are saying. Or maybe it was a statement by Clyne to several outlets..?

The truth is, you can double-think all you want. A player suggests he is staying and a jaundiced club support take that as little more than something to keep them happy before he leaves weeks later. Or you can take it at face value, or treat it as an indicator of the way things are going. Somewhere along the line a supporter could give the professional the benefit of the doubt, or are we so jaundiced that nothing a player can say will stop us thinking the way we want to..? And what do we honestly gain from thinking that way in any case..?

 

I believe what Clyne is saying....he is happy here, his agent is dealing with everything else as he is concentrating on his football. He hasn't said I intend to sign a new contract at Saints. so buzz off everyone else. For all we know there may be an offer so good, Saints will urge him to leave (unlikely I know). We just don't know at the moment what will happen. I'm not cynical about Clyne...it is just that things change.

Newcastle linked with him a while back and I have seen a few low grade articles linking us to him and also the Slovakian midfielder.

A rumour with a little substance to it, which is nice to see.
He has obviously tried being part of a huge squad at City with no clear pathway to the first team and knows it's flawed.

Type his name in the Black Box and let see what comes out.
Though his comments are disrespectful to his current club

 

It may also indicate that Southampton are no longer so small and poor that we are dismissed out of hand. Players are being careful not to diss us as we may be the biggest game in town for them.

I know its not likely but i would love to see us try to get Tom Heaton as a keeper. He's been impressive all season and with Burnley heading back down and him hitting 30 it would be a great time to nab him as competition for Forster and as a long term no 2 keeper to replace kelvin.

 

How so? They asked him if he would be interested in going to Southampton. It would be kind of rude to be like "Naw, they suck." It would also be stupid to be like "No way. Those guys are way too good for me."

He gave the only answer he could give which in this case is also probably the honest one. But he also praised his current club and said he was under contract.

I don't know how people expect footballers to answer questions like that. Whatever they say-- including saying nothing-- someone gets upset.

You must have had access to the whole interview because on the quotes provided he makes no mention of his current club

Whilst you don't want players to be robots in interviews. I don't think many of us would be impressed if Morgan said similar things about Wenger & Arsenal.
