In fairness Wilson has had more than one good season, he played extremely well for Coventry, albeit in league one. But we should know as well as any club that players are more than capable of stepping up from championship/league one

And then sold for big bucks to clubs that would never buy players from the lower divisions

Interesting point......makes you wonder why clubs like Liverpool tend not to buy players from the lower leagues. Then have to buy them at a premium later in their career. Although they can never be accused of not giving youngsters a chance either....or could they?

Taken from the Sunday people...

  • Everton and Southampton are keen on Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan.
Why would we in interested in this player when we have Ryan and Matt as a capable reserve?

Agent talk - fairly sure it was The People, years back, who said Liverpool were tracking Olly Lancashire.

We have another 3 in the academy as well.

I see Celtic are after Dundee Utd. Cifci. We could probably save ourselves several million if we get to him first rather than buy him off Celtic in a few years time.

We are linked with so many players...if we signed the lot, we would rule the world. Presumably all these rumours start at the other end as I can't see Saints chatting about it in a bar to journalists. A lot of people putting 2 and 2 together to make 5. I just hope we strike early and get them in for preseason, especially if we will have qualifiers to play.

Vilhena is basically done. It's the only thing I have been told atm.

After last summer (and how this season has duly panned out), I think Rodgers and Liverpool have to be very careful when it comes to looking at players from PL clubs below them. It's clear that Lambert, Lallana and Lovren have not worked this season - and to be honest, if you go back further, you would put questions marks over the likes of Allen (Swansea), Mignolet (Sunderland), and Enrique (Newcastle). Hell, Adam (Blackpool), Carroll (Newcastle) and Downing (Villa) have all already left again. I think the Liverpool fans will be highly sceptical about potentially signing more players who PL clubs below them, who on first glance wont help them compete with even Arsenal or City, let alone Chelsea. And that in turn might scare Rodgers and the Liverpool board off - they must know that they're on dodgy ground with the Liverpool fans as it is, given the last 10 months. They must also know that they've wasted enough money as it is.

Is Tripper good enough for Liverpool? I'm not sure, potentially. Can I see Liverpool bidding for him? Absolutely not.

Given that Everton have Coleman and Utd may well have Clyne, I'd suggest that if we want Tripper, only Spurs could potentially get in our way.

I think teams like Lie

Who was the last player any of the top clubs signed from a PL team below them who has actually worked out? Most recent one I can think of is Milner at City, and Henderson at Liverpool.

Most players playing at the middling teams in the PL in their mid 20s are there for a reason, they are good as the main men at smaller teams where the team is built around them, but majority will struggle when moving to a team filled with talent.
