It comes down to basic addition. UKIP got more votes then the DUP and Sinn Fein and less seats because they stood in hundreds more seats. Not a lot to do with PR.

What's that got to do with maths?
I was just pointing out that it was rather unfair that over 13% of the votes went to a party that only got one seat, yet another party got 55 seats with just 6% of the votes. I know how it happened, but it doesn't make it any less fair.
Maths includes arithmetic, or it did when I was at school. The SNP didn't get 6% of the vote.
Replace SNP 56 seats with Lib Dems 8 seats and 8% of the popular vote. Pretty sure they stood in most constituencies.
Different question though. The answer to which would be compare the seats UKIP got to the Tories. UKIP's vote is well over a third of the Tories vote and yet the Tories over 300 seats more.
But nearly two and a half times more people voted for UKIP than voted for the SNP. So fairness says they should have a larger representation in Parliament. Which they would under PR, and is why neither the Tories or Labour will willingly bring it in.
A good job the English, the more balance and sensible part of the UK, rejected Miliband and his deadbeats otherwise we would have had the party whose MPs got 6% of the voters calling the shots.
As it is such was the lack of enthusiasm for Labour they still wouldn't have won if they had retained all their seats in Scotland.
I didn't do any arithmetic in my original post, I just said how many votes they got compared to how many seats they got, as it was announced on the BBC this morning.
The total numbers of votes cast in Scotland and the rest of the UK is not yet known, but the BBC said they expected the SNP would get somewhere around 2m votes from 35-38m votes in total, which is about 6%. If those numbers are wrong, or I misheard them, them fair enough, but I didn't make them up.
Milliband is about to announce his resignation.

Galloway's not having a good day...
Respect Party leader George Galloway has been reported to police for sending a tweet which is alleged to have broken election laws.
The Bradford West candidate - who lost his seat to Labour's Naz Shah - allegedly sent the tweet about exit polls before voting closed on Thursday night, which is banned.
"We have reported a tweet by George Galloway to the police who are dealing with the issue," said acting returning officer Suzan Hemingway.

I know you're not stupid but think about what you've said. Do you really believe that the DUP should have no seats in the UK parliament? They got substantially less than 6% of the total UK vote. Maybe you think that Belfast North should be represented by a Scottish Celtic supporter?
It looks like UKIP took the votes of sufficient Labour supporters to keep Cameron in No 10. I'd say Farage has done his job well.

It was a joke. As you know I don't usually pick people up on their grammar, its a forum after all, not an English class. Yes the election has got to me. Another 5 years of misery for large sections of our country. Luckily I have no faith in Labour to be anything other than Tory lite.
Of course there is no possibility that UKIP took the votes of disaffected Tories.
The only solution is PR. But the last time the chance was on the table it was turned down. Of course PR was the system that let Hitler in whereas FPTP wouldn't have but that is the risk you take.

I don't get why Scotland has almost unanimously voted in SNP when they rejected independence... Doesn't add up.
