Ashley is like the captain of the Titanic, oblivious to the calamity just ahead of him.

There's usually no lengths I won't go to in order to take the rise out of Newcastle, including Mag relatives in the Chopwell area.

    But this situation is sickening.

Decent people, who love their clubs, are totally at the mercy of people like Ashley who see clubs as an advertising medium, an income stream or just another 'big boys toy'. I'm just glad I was around during the chaotic, amateurish 70's & 80's when we felt like we were all in it together and the club cared if we lived or died ....... I've no idea what the solution is, I don't think there is one.

The amounts of money involved these days have crushed the heart of the game.

Now all we have is a stream of foreign mercenary badge kissing frauds who think visiting the local hospital once a year is 'putting something back into the community'. It absolutely stinks and all that keeps me going are the faces of lads I've seen for the past 40 years, the memories & the history.

I'm just glad that the uncle, from Consett, who gave me my Charlie Hurley rosette passed away before the game he loved was throttled to death.

Smug, I've had more pleasure watching Gateshead play in the Conference then I've had in watching the Toon for years.

Nice sentiment well written. Utterly bang on as well, and as this is pretty much fact, it will - in time - permeate all fans. Eventually football will experience a real down turn. Not yet, but it will.

    Anybody remember this?

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2008/sep/14/newcastleunited.premierleague

This is from the hand or mouth of Mike Ashley. Best lines include such classics as:

"I was always prepared to bank roll Newcastle up to the tune of £20million per year but no more. That was my bargain."

"Don't get me wrong. I did not buy Newcastle to make money. I bought Newcastle because I love football."

"Dennis [Wise] and his team have done a first class job in scouting for talent to secure the future of the club.

You only need to look at some of our signings to see that it is working, slowly working....with the signing of exceptional young talent such as Sebastein Bassong, Danny Guthrie and Xisco."

The fans can't do any more. Fifty thousand at every home game, despite not having won anything for decades, tells me that there is something desperately wrong with the management of Newcastle. The fans have put more than enough money into the club over the years and it isn't up to the fans to make sure that money is invested and spent wisely. Ashley may have spent his money buying the club but the fans didn't put the club in financial peril. It was the clowns who ran the club before Ashley who did that.

    Alas, I disagree.

It will go the way of manufactured pop, artifiicial wrestling and all the other sports which is all glitz, fireworks, ridiculous music and little to do with sport.

I used to be a keen rugby player and went to every international that I could but now I couldn't care less about any of the games. It's all meaningless these days. The only international sport that I follow is England in cricket -- perhaps they remind me of Newcastle United.

But the thing is, as long as we have kids growing up who think that football is just the Favoured Four by Sky and love the razzamatazz then football is dead as we know it. Each time sometimes goes to watch the modern day elite football franchises which had its roots many decades ago, but forgotten, in 'jumpers for goalposts' then the game dies that lttle bit more.

One of my favourite sportsmen retired recently. Tony McCoy. I'd love to see any of the Newcastle players or even these imported Kiss The Badge Of Whichever Club My Agent Tells Me This Is types be as professional and dedicated as he was.

When I played rugby I remember looking up from a scrum during a small club rugby festival weekend and saw Dewi Morris not far from me pinging off yet another perfect pass. Scott Gibbs was in the bar (minus his eyebrows which he left in Hong Kong courtesy of Constable W Dooley). Those days are gone now with the modern 'improved' game.

Whilst there's money the game will always suffer unless you're a fan of the Favoured Four. And being under twelve helps too, I suppose.

**** this game. I miss it sorely.

    aye, Collymore just tweeted that.
I called him a stirrer so am probably blocked now.
Collymore tries to preach morality which is laughable given his past.

A petulant child lashing out. I have to laugh at him describing Colo and Jonas 'world class' at the time. Also have to laugh at his comment about Xisco. Mike Ashley has created this whole mess. One day, karma will pay him a visit.

you'd think that with the money going around there'd be deals to be done with one of the 3 teams who have nothing to play for.

Don't be surprised to see lines of dildos and butt plugs in Sports Direct soon in return for 3 points from the Hammers.

But he still has the moral high ground on our club, which is the real issue.

Since John Hall and Keegan stopped being the figure heads for the club, we have been on a steady downward spiral to where we find ourselves today. Successive poor decisions both in managerial and coaching/footballing appointments alongside some varied recruitment/retention decisions have been the primary issue. The fact that out best seasons have been under Roeder & Hughton with small budgets relying on the likes of Sibierski, Kuqi, Lovenkrands etc whilst we wasted cash on Souness, Alardyce, Owen,Boumsong, Luque, etc

I got 100/1, I dont want to go down at all and if i had the choice, id chose to stay in the PL, but as soon as thet £1k gets put in my bank account, along with the absence of football for the next 3 months I'll probaby feel okay, until August.
