Please correct me if I'm wrong and this is not a WUM article.

Modric wants to leave Spurs don't want to sell.

Modric states he wants to leave to challenge for on all levels.

You lot and the Club are not happy and don't want him to leave but I imagine you would be glad to see the back of any player that doesn't want to play for you.

If he really wants to go and has ambitions that he thinks you cannot match then put in a transfer request simple as that. Players are stupidly greedy, he going to get paid more at Chelsea and has plenty of money. Does any money he gets from a transfer mean that much to him?

But he won't put in a transfer request (apparently) which at the present is the crux of the matter.

That's what i'm on about, I think it's the biggest insult and shows that all he cares about is money. If he wants to go for footballing reasons like he is saying then lose the money and put in the request.

A guy that grew up a stones throw from Old Trafford and came through the Youth set up is hardly comparable to your average Johnny Foreigner though!!

Modric has to put in a request now if he really wants to leave and I suspect within the next week or so he will. The buying club will probably cover any lost bonus with a signing on fee anyway.

What about Yaya Toure, I hear he's only on about 38 squillion quid a week and left Barcelona for the privilege of playing for Manchester's second biggest club!!

Modric wants to carry on with this wounded soul act without putting in a transfer request. If he wants to leave that is what is he has to do. If he doesn't put in a transfer request QED. At the moment he may be pretty much of a weasel, but unless he puts in that request he is OUR weasel and will remain so. When that situation alters, I hope he goes abroad.

Paul Scholes didn't even have a money grubbing agent, he just did his contract renegotiations through the PFA.

As for your "Johnny Foreigner" comment, didn't Ashley Cole come through the Arsenal youth ranks, and leave because he thought he was worth £60k per week and they were "only" offering him £55k p/w - before bumping into Chelsea officials in a hotel lobby?

Almost. Cole left because he had been promised 60k a week and they went against that promise when the contract was formally offered.

Was a matter of principle for someone who often gets tagged for not having any. Arsenal by penny pinching over 5k a week lost the best full back of a generation for 5 million and Gallas. Great bit of business!!

What have they won since Cole scored that winning penalty in the FA cup final for them??

Players should not be complaining about broken promises from their club while wanting to get out of long term contracts

Depends on whether what Modric said is true.

If the only reason the long term contract was signed was due to the existance of a gentleman's agreement to let him leave to a 'bigger' club if an offer came in, then you can't blame the player for kicking off now. The agent should have had a clause entered into the contract to that effect though.

This long term contracts thing is a bit tired isn't it?

As has been said on other threads, they are purely for the player to earn more money through an increased weekly wage at the point of signing, or for the club to capitalise on the players worth should they come to sell.

Show me one modern day footballer that signs a contract for the love and loyalty to the club, the game is full of sharks and **** heads unfortuantely.

Scholes, Giggs et al are the exception to the rule, but even Alan Shearer had it written into his contract that he would always be the highest paid player at Newcastle by £1...so imagine how hard the decision was for him to make the decision to stay on for another season when Owen signed and was paid around £30k a week more than him...not particularly tricky I should imagine.

The ethics in football are almost as shallow and murky as boxing, as Levy well knows.

Modric will leave the club and where he goes remains to be seen, but as one of your posters mentioned earlier you should achieve a fair price that you can re-invest into the team, it is the sellers market after all.

A small footnote re Carroll and Jordan from above...they were both bought at over the odds because they were young and English, so to utilise them in comparison to any transfer it would have to be on similar terms, and Modric doesn't fit into that.

Scholes and Giggs are no more loyal than anyone else

If Man Utd had been a poor club with no hope of trophies of Europe they would have been off

However players expect everything from their club like large wages, bonus clauses, image rights and regular first team football and still think they have the right to **** the club off if a "bigger" club shows interest

    I don't buy this BS about a gentleman's agreement.

Penny pinching! £5k a week is not penny pinching. You must be well paid to think a quarter of a million pounds is trifling. How do you know what was promised, Cashley is not my idea of an honest or principled man.

I thought Cole said in his book that he nearly crashed his car when his agent told him that Arsenal would only offer a paltry £60k pw?
