Kevin Sheedy?, Mark Lawrenson?, Pat Van Den Hauwe?, and others. It never mattered that they were good enough for their respective country's schoolboy and youth teams, can see his point but can't see why all of a sudden its of major importance. More importantly he should be whinging about not enough English/British kids coming through the ranks because of the influx of foreign youths. If there was as much quality around these days as in the days of those I mentioned Grealish wouldn't have entered Samuel's head let alone made him write an article on him.
is not an argument or a point, it's literally the same as all the internet forum bitter driven speculation. Not at you, but Samuels Samuel doesn't give a **** about this lad. It's pure nationalist ****e. "imagine the howls if the positions were reversed: if the FA stepped in to entice a young Irish footballer" He also doesn't give a **** about the young Irish player who might have had a chance of Graelish was not selected but pretends to care What? like his howling now? Talk about hypocricy, of Samuels not you. If the reverse happened, England would be taking a player that would certanly make the national senior side. Slight difference but.. any whinging about the FA following the rules would be as hollow as Samuels whinging abou the Irish FA following the rules. The whole thing is so full of irony bitterness and false morals
does he? he'd say kevin peitersen is the ideal example of why this is bad... just ignore the ashes wins and say how it ended... #hackstwiststuftosuit
Lets be fair on this, he was called up by England at U15 level and was unable to play due to illness...then again but was playing for Ireland. If he decides on reland then fair play, he gets most summers off on holiday
Sheedy and Lawrenson qualified via their parents, not grand parents. Psycho Pat got to play for Wales due to gaining a UK passport which at the time gave him the choice of home Nations, that is no longer the case. Samuel only brought it up because of the lads performance on Sunday, it was a relevant discussion I suppose.
What you and Samuels don't get is that if he chooses England, there is a higher possibility he will be sitting out the summers too, given the current England setup, re my recent rant about how many senior England side players play for the U21s like Sterling oxo and the rest, there is probably better odds of Ireland qualifying for the Euros and WC than Graelish being selected to play for the U21s and senior England side. Being part of a squad is not the same as getting to play international football regularly and his odds of that with Ireland are infinitely greater.
Since England's last "real success" at international level I think Ireland have had as much success at international tournaments as England(both winning nothing)despite it not being the country's major sport and despite Ireland's population being 4.5m compared to England's 53m. So the summer holidays are well deserved.
The number of over 21 players is limited and I am sure that in a squad of 23 he will get his chance. Until each U21 squad is announced we have no idea who of the overage players will be picked, if any at all. IF this kid is good enough then he will get many england caps at U21 and senior level and be spending his summers playing in major tournaments around the globe
Why do you have to mention success, I just pointed out that he would have more summers off if he goes with Ireland
At u21s probably mate A quick look at England senior selection process makes a mockery of that. Players get selected because of who they are. Rooney with a broken foot goes to the WC, Gerrard Lampard and many others selected regardless of form. You're kidding right? So what use is having an international career till you are too old for the u21s? Not worth much really, the kid has obviously thought this out yet Samuels blames the Irish FA and the rules he wants rules that would resign this lad to the playing no senior international football, but as long as Ireland cant have him, then great, so the Samuels rant goes anyway kinda proves he doesn't give a monkeys about the lad.
In current England squads? Then the call up of Delph and other players is just a sham! Slowly the tide is turning
As far as I know England can comb Ireland for players with English ancestry, the only reason they have not been is because the players would not make the teams probably. If that was happening would Samuels be writing a load of tosh about it, yes probably something about English players losing out because of Irish imports
Remind me of the Graelish types that played in Brazil? Not being smart, I am not aware of any but you could point them out for me
Getting to World Cups and European Championships is one thing, but coming home(mostly)in disgrace isn't really something to brag about, you can bet most of the England squad that failed in Brazil last year wish they'd have gone on holiday instead.
Delph is a quality player imo, has been performing for years. False comparison. Even then how long did it take for his callup
As I said, recent squads. Since the abysmal showing of the more 'established' players Roy has turned to new blood I am tired of United, Liverpool and Arsenal players just turning up and giving NOTHING to the shirt
