I currently cycle around 120 miles a week so the gym isn't for me.....when out walking I always carry a heavy pack & often wear ankle weights

Taking the motorbike on track days is also an excellent upper body workout...try riding a superbike at around 120mph on a circuit for 3 or 4 hours....best exercise ever

How come, when someone that's been really overweight loses it, they don't end up with really strong legs from using the same logic not by choice.

Weight loss cannot only target fat, a prolonged calorific deficit required to lose a lot of weight will also cause you to loose muscle mass.

A scientist somewhere needs to invent a cheap quick way of getting in shape - they'll make loads of money.

Depends what 'shape' you're after. A kebab diet will give you a shape. <ok>

The trick is making it desirable.

<yikes> Don't let Ken find out.

I know what you mean though, she plays it with a good mix of cunning and ruthlessness, but with the slip into naive innocence and 'mumsy'.

Refurbished Ennerdale reopens back end of January, with upgraded gym facilities. Promises to be okay, though if Labour Councillor Terry Geraghty as anything to do with it, it will close shortly.

Haltemprice ...joined about two years ago ... fighting back against heart attack, diabetes, high blood pressure, classed as clinically obese ( was 5ft 7in 16 stone ) Weight down to 14st, blood pressure nearly normal, not classed as diabetic now. Have learnt how to jog again, no problem with breathing just leg muscles and joints complaining after a few minutes. Use most of the equipment for light weights high reps. £23 a month for pensioners ( yes that's me ) go at least 2 times a week for a good hour. Can also use other facilities, pool, courts and classes. Oh nearly forgot I'm still 5ft 7in and have changed diet.

Nice one TheFullBack good to see you're putting the effort in and seeing the rewards

Bought myself a home gym about a year ago already paid for itself in what I've saved on Membership and the lack of travel is a big plus. The downside side is the lack of instruction but following the right people on YouTube and common sense covers that. Also do circuit training once a week. I've noticed a difference in the last year.
