Now that MFG has gone, and Dave has sadly passed away - this board needs a grumpy poster.

Not the one it deserves, but the one it needs ...

hahaha, RHC has already claimed that mantle.

On Rodgers, his 2nd place last season has built him up enough goodwill to cover for his failure to deliver top 4 this (assuming that's how it ends like)

A bit like Martinez record points tally with us last season, will give him the first half of next season to show that it wasn't a fluke, despite our disastrous showing this.

I've said from the off that I think Rodgers is a con artist, but in fairness, after a terrible start to this season, he has turned it around. However, managers will always ultimately live and die by their signings and his have been largely rank - committee or no committee, he was the key decision maker.

  4. I never said Brod was beyond criticism or that he should or shouldn't be sacked. I just think its very disrespectful and outside the Liverpool way to be discussing who WILL be the new manager come the summer when we have someone in post that isn't currently under threat. Jimmy hates Brod, he made that clear last season, never mind this.

Haha I never said I hate Brod. I actually respected Brod a lot last season, and I was a big fan, and genuinely believed he was a quality young coach.

But since then, it's quite clear that a lot of what was good last season was down to one man, Luis Suarez.

And whilst that may be exaggerated, I can give you the single biggest piece of evidence to support my claim - everyone said that Rodgers built a world class attack last season full of pressing and intensity.

If Rodgers truly brought that to the team, then why have we hardly seen at all this season?

Bloody hell - if I was the owner or CEO of LFC, then fair enough. This is a forum mate.

And also - I would say Rodgers's job is massively under threat given he's likely to finish outside of the Top 4, not to mention spunking £50m on Soton dross, and embarrassing shows in both European competitions.

  8. I was just reading this about Klopp...

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32318754

...and found it quite amusing. They look at Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico, Bayern and then generally at France / Italy. Under Man City, it says...:

"In the past Klopp has hinted that his philosophy may not tally with City's anyway, having said: "I don't want the most money for a team because that brings problems. I don't want these problems."

...but who they see as the favourites for Klopp to join? Real Madrid, the kings of superstar signings <laugh>

  9. You got 7.125billion quotes for that...?

You say Suarez is effecting peoples views, you ever thought it may be effecting yours? Did us having Suarez drag us along last season raise expectations too quickly? We wasn't even expected to get top four last year <laugh>

  10. Haters are going to hate Jimmy. You hate Brod, you are already on the next manager. By the time the reality see's us onto another manager you'll be three or four more down the road. Typical modern day fan

Like I said, if you're happy with not actually achieving anything, then be my guest. <ok>

And my question is to Liverpool - not to Brendan Rodgers, or any other employee for that matter.

    Really?

Given that he'd spent £100m by that point and his predecessor was sacked for failing to deliver CL football, and Rodgers had taken you from 8th to 7th, surely CL football was his remit last season?

  13. Feel free to track back and look at peoples predictions. Nobody had us getting top four, especially after we finished seventh the season before it. As I said, expectation levels are skewed by last year's over achievement.

PS...Rodgers wasn't sacked for failing to get top four AND failing to win a trophy. All in the season following Kenny's sacking.

I wasn't talking about posters predictions, I meant the targets given to him by his employer

Rodgers got a years grace, his 'transition' season, there was no great expectations on him in his FIRST season, but that wasn't the case in his second. Yes he over achieved, but I'm certain top 4 was always what was expected of him by his employers. I think if he'd have failed to deliver it (or got extremely close) he'd have been out the door.

His goodwill bank will save him this season, but it won't next.

  15. I was talking about general expectations. We could sit here and discuss what the owners expected until our hearts are content but it will all be presumptions and opinions.

I believe challenging for top four in the second season was expected but challenging and achieving are two different things. There were a few words coming out the club saying we were ahead of scheduled after last season too.

Like with Jimmy, I don't expect your opinion or view of Brod to change too much either. You made your thoughts on him clear from day one <laugh>

We weren't expected to get top 4 in the second season.

Getting top 4 was always a 3 years plan. The least I expected from last season was a serious challenge to break into the top 4.

I also said I'd have to eat my words if he had another great season after coming 2nd last year, and I've partially done that, as the way he turned your season around by changing the formation to something completely out of the ordinary, worked. Brave, tactical genius, pure fluke, desperation or a combination of all 4, take your pick, but he still deserves some credit for it.

Where he's completely failed imo, is in the transfer market - Sturridge, Coutinho and Can aside, I think ALL of his other signings have been meh or worse. After having spent what he's spent that's a poor return.

Especially after his comments on Spurs should be winning the league after spending £100m.

  20. Completely agree Tobes. I believe it is a combination of all four and the transfers have been poor.
