Button joined Mclaren because of the challenge of racing against Hamilton so just say hypothetically he beats Hamilton this season which might make Button feel he has met that challenge and wants another one such as going up against Alonso at Ferrari.
It's the rumour that won't go away, despite both sides ridiculing it previously. Still sounds like pre-contract negotiation manoeuvring, though.
The first bit is a quote we have seen before and the second seems like Buttons response to a direct question on the matter, so dont read much into it. while we're on the subject of rediculous button rumors how about red bull. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/motorsport/2011/07/08/red-bull-want-jenson-button-to-partner-sebastian-vettel-115875-23256625/
I haven't noticed that quote before but then it's been quite a busy weekend. It's similar to what he said in May, which prompted this thread of Mifune's, but I think it's interesting that, with his McLaren option due to expire in the next few weeks, he should choose to reiterate it at Silverstone. Byron Young's an idiot. His nothing article is based on "a Red Bull source" telling him that Horner thinks Button is doing a better job than Hamilton. Byron Young = Paul Weaver = tacky cheap scumbag.
Thinking way back to his Williams - BAR contract struggle and more recently leaving Brawn for McLaren, I think Jenson's a canny operator and if he thinks Ferrari will be better for him, he'll go. I'm not sure it will be better for him though but I'm sure he'll know better than I do Plus, with Mclaren's woes on everyone's lips this weekend, it's also a canny angle for a journalist looking for a story just like Byron Young's typically desperate attempt.
McLaren should really keep Jenson whatever the cost, if he goes to Ferrari it only gives more bad news for the McLaren ship that is starting to sink to the grasp of Mercedes and Renault.
I don't know. They do like a firebrand who wears his heart on his sleeve but they've sacked better drivers than Hamilton for criticising the team. It's high time Ferrari had another English driver, though.
Surely this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/14094333.stm ) is the rumour that won't go away. The BBC insist on printing every couple days just with the words rearranged.
I've always prefered the idea of Jenson staying at McLaren. Until today. Now is the right time to jump ship from a declining and error prone team.
That's a bit of a knee jerk reaction isn't it? A 6th and a DNF in the last 2 races means it's time to jump ship? He won 2 races ago didn't he?
yes but i think that is the only race he will win this year. The car is going backwards again and this is McLarens thirds straight year of having the third best car. The WCC flatters them because of Massa. Their strategys have been abysmal all year (to lewis as well as jenson) and Whitmarsh is hopeless. Ferrari are simply a better option, Alonso or not.
I can see what you're getting at but if you consider the rule changes that were happening in the middle of practice this weekend and the fact that the weather prevented much dry running on Friday, I don't think it's as bad a situation as you're making out. Some strategies haven't gone their way but what about China and Canada, were their strategies awful then too? Plus there were good results in Australia and Spain. Since 2009 when Whitmarsh took over, McLaren have finished an average of 2.3 in the WCC (including current standings). When Ron Dennis was in charge from 1980 -2008 (I know he left as team principal in 2009 but that was at the start of the season so isn't worth including) they finished an average of 2.7 in the WCC so I think Whitmarsh is doing pretty well and far from being hopeless. Let's not forget that the last time they won the WCC was in 1998 so it's not a recent thing that they've played second fiddle to whoever's won. Ferrari haven't exactly had a stellar past couple of seasons either have they? 2009 was a complete write off and the 1st half of 2011 and this year haven't been great either. If McLaren continue to keep missing the podium then I agree that they need to re-evaluate their game plan but until then, I'm going to give them more time.
Good post, WestCoastBoogaloo. Many posters are pure weather vanes, so if McLaren have one bad race they are a team in decline, but if they have a few good races then the considered opinion is completely the opposite. Nobody said that McLaren were on the wane when they had the fastest race car for three races on the spin. Anyone remember that? Brundle said in the forum today that it was foolish to criticise McLaren, and even saw fit to mention people on the internet who do exactly that. I doubt these people are really criticising McLaren because they want to see McLaren doing better. I think they are criticising McLaren because they want to see a certain petualnt, whining child with an over-aggressive "style" doing better.
