Because we had the best 2 strikers in the league

Unless we were going to buy the new best striker in the league the system was going to change

With £75m in his sky rocket, I reckon he could have done a tad better in his search than Big Lambo and Mad Mario.

His system only changed as he failed to buy a top drawer forward with even a hint of the right attributes to fill Suarez boots. Two big immobile lumps were never going to be the answer.

I dunno what he was thinking, I still can't beleive Balo was his choice, Lambo was never mean to replace anyone, it's the Balo signing that gets me.

What would the options be for us to replace Suarez, there is no like for like and the closest I can think of is Aguero, and we'd less than 0 chance of signing him.

Being out of the CL for so long is what left us with little choices in the summer but surely there were better options than the stupid risk taken on Balo

We tried to sign Costa and Sanchez but couldn't.

So the system had to change.

The reality you can't or don't want to admit is given those circumstances LFC is a big enough club that it can easily afford to buy Lambert for next to nothing and Balotelli on an admitted gamble. This is not like Everton spunking a record fee on a donkey who has put you bottom half of the table.

We risked about £10m (possible loss on Balotelli). You risked everything.

You went out and paid money for Mario and Lambert.......after Suarez had left <laugh>

Rodgers used Mario and Sturridge as a pair before he realised he had spunked money on a donkey

I do feel that Jose is somewhat vindicated now in his decision to let Lukaku leave.
Lukaku demanded assurances on match time and Jose wouldn't do it.

I won't rise to your nonsense, however I will counter what you said.

You tried to replace Suarez witha similar type of player and then supposedly gave up after 2 knock backs and bought the polar opposite?

Genius strategy that like

"I'm looking for a 5 bed house, I like the look of these two"

Sorry they're both sold.

"Oh, in that case can I take that 2 bed terrace and the bedsit please"

<laugh>

In all seriousness, after we'd been knocked back, and with the end of the window looming, I don't think there was much left available, and the 2 bed terrace looked better than a cardboard box under a bridge.
We failed in the market for a variety of reasons, all of which we've been over many times on here already.

<doh>if you want a **** analogy it's more like

"Hey we have the best 2 mansions in the country let's keep using both of them."

"Oh apparently the market value for one of them is £40m because that's the only offer we had for it. But now we're getting almost twice that amount so let's sell it."

"Can we buy the next best house in the country? No it's not for sale."

"OK so let's just use a fraction of the money we got to buy an apartment we don't use so often so we keep the convenience of not having to always rely on going back to our remaining mansion."

Ok now I am lost!
You two have some ****ing weird arguments on here <laugh>

Indeed and that's what I was intimating, panic buys. Lambert I could sort of understand as he could have given you a different option, but Balotelli as the direct squad replacement was a ****ing shocker, as much in terms of what he offers, aside from the fact that he's a massive helmet.

I dunno, the fact Balo has been sitting on the bench most of the season is yet another indicator it was not a Brod choice. He failed to get his targets and the committe prob said here have balo cos you need someone and 16 mil is not a massive risk

usually a manager would keep using his signing to jusify signing him in the first place, this has not happened with Balo

Let's get back to football.

It's like replacing Messi with Peter Crouch <laugh>

Anyone any idea who would have been an option? Seeing as there is an abundance of armchair managers, the list should be long enough <whistle>

He's on the committee though and there's no way they'd foist a lemon like Balotelli on him without his agreement.

He's as culpable as the rest, in fact even more so, as his ego was that big he reckoned he could be the man to manage the tool, when far better than him had tried and failed.

Again, only because there was no like-for-like replacement, or anything approaching it, that we could get.
With hindsight it's easy to say the Balo signing was a terrible mistake, and clearly it was- but at the time it was a gamble that just might have paid off to a degree.
I doubt that there was anyone at the club who felt they'd got a winner after failing to get the real targets, but sometimes you just have to hit and hope.

I don't think it is that simple even if there is some truth in what you said. We needed some cover regardless.

I think it is fair to say had Brod chosen him he would have been trying like **** to justify it, especially after the disaster Lovren and Markovic turned out to be, we resorted to a 20 year old who is not a striker instead.

Also Balo has never looked as crap as he does this season. Awful awful awful

Had we played him 28 full games he may have got 8 goals though :bandit:

I think he's one of those players who you've got to play every week and stick with them. His ego is such that if he's not starting and feeling the love, he sulks an becomes withdrawn.

Same for Lambert as well for me, at 32 and as a big striker he needs to be playing every week to keep him fighting fit, not being used off the bench, it was never going to work. Reminded me of Holt going to Villa, looked a total lump when he wasn't first pick every week.
