I don't understand how it is decent. Both teams have more than 10,000 regular attendees to home games and there must be about 7 miles between the grounds. If City got under 21k for the biggest game of the season in the second tier it would be seen as a poor attendance, so how is this in the top tier decent?
Except they don't both have over 10,000 regulars. Rovers have been getting less than 8,000 recently. Somebody has done a good job actually as they had over 20,000 when both teams are getting smaller crowds than when they got 18,000 for the biggest Derby in the universe and everywhere else.
Because it's rugby league, where the average attendance is 9,600. I don't know what KR's average attendance is, but they only had 7,300 against St Helens. According to Sky Sports, the highest attendance this season was 14,132 at Leeds, though the site has a match report for FC v KC showing over 20k.
We're not talking about rugby league as a whole, Salford's attendance vs Catalan is of no significance. We're talking about rugby league in Hull which "is a rugby town".
It obviously isn't a rugby town, we were talking about 20,000+ being a decent crowd in a rugby league game and it is.

The whole Webb Ellis thing's a myth too. There's a few articles blowing holes through the fantasy of how Rugby was invented. Ironic, given the Gateshead link that Hull FC were once Hull NUFC*. *presumably Northern Union Football Club. They do seem to distance themselves from the league tag in the name.
Apparently the Northern Union Rugby Football Union clubs did actually play rugby league and changed their name to Northern Rugby Football League some time in the 20's.

I learned something about the ruggers today, I'm not sure if anyones aware but one of the anthems for the proper (union) national team is swing low sweet chariot, that was started by my local village rugby club.
