Liverpool's season beginning to unravel properly. They need top 4. Problem is... who are they going to cherry pick from for next season..? They'll have to lose the shirt off their backs, if they want more of our players, because Liverpool is not going to be a step-up.

I agree. Fair enough express your opinion of whether he should be in the England squad but it seems to be a bit personal. Is there a story behind this or just merson = twat?

Merson expressed an opinion. I am in no way a fan of Merson, but I'm not going to criticise him for making for making a reasonably valid opinion. Especially given that he's an ex-footballer who is paid to be a pundit. So very similar to what you say above.

For me, Townsend is the reason why this has escalated. After his goal vs Italy, he had a go back at Merson on twitter. Was that really necessary? Even if it was, I'm not sure that makes Merson's initial point redundant. If Delph or Mason had stuck one in from 30 yards, you'd say well played son, but I'm not sure that it would too many people suddenly want them starting for England.
 
I'd sell Jones, Enrique, Coates, Borini, Mario, Lovren, Lallana, Lambert.
I'd even sell Skrtel and Lucas but they can come off the bench at least. Same applies to Flanno.

I was brought up with a really simple expression: "Two wrongs don't make a right"

Merson is what, 40-45? He should let the youngster behave immaturely.

Townsend performed well, got a good goal. That doesn't make it right but he was responding directly to someone saying he shouldn't be in the team.
Mersons latest tweet was not really related to whether he should be playing but was mocking him for being a bit part player.
