The problem with depression is its a very hard condition for a doctor to catch or for a sufferer to seek help.

If they bring in measures to stop pilots from working it could have adverse consequences, pilots are less likely to seek help knowing they'll lose their job.

It's a really tough condition to battle from either side.

He's trained for stuff like this, if the plane was hurtling towards a mountain and he was trying to get into the cockpit, you'd think he'd remember he's got a key.

    yeah.
Mental Illness it has a stigma attached to it - fortunately it is getting talked about more and more.
Everyone gets down but fortunately not many of us experience real depression.

So what, both pilots are suspected of being in on it? There was obviously some problem with the over ride, I can't imagine the main pilot spending 10 minutes banging on the door for show for the black box.

maybe he didn't notice till it was too late, and the pilot and copilot struggled for control of the airplane.

The override is actually in the cockpit. It's a simple on/off switch which the co-pilot flicked to stop the pilot re-entering the cockpit! Theyve spent all this time keeping people out since 9/11 that they haven't allowed for people locking themselves in. The pilot wouldn't have a key! For the reasons that a terrorist could take it off him!

they should have a keypad on the outside of the door, which only the pilots have the combination for.

Easyjet have just announced that from tomorrow, they'll have two people in the cockpit at all times.

Will they have an Easylav in there, too?

Or will the pilots wear EasyNappies?

    how about 3, or 4, or 5?
point is - unless the stigma on mental illness is broken, **** like this will happen over and over again.

hate to break it to you, but you are more likely to die on the roads.
air travel is statistically the safest way to travel... I fully expect that to change when we get flying cars.

Seen the video, the key pad only works if the three position switch in the cockpit is in norm, the co-pilot switched the switch to lock and this stops the key pad working.
