Possibly, but like James May has already said, they're a package. They'll appear somewhere else without question. Whatever show the BBC come up with will get torn to shreds, there's a more 'factual' version of Top Gear already, called 5th Gear, it's ****. What they're doing is probably the right thing, but it's only the BBC who will lose out. I'm sure Tariq will draw in literally hundreds of viewers as he discusses the economic benefits of owning a new Toyota Hybrid.
Clarkson's a weirdo of our time. He's the modern Alf Garnett, but a hell of a lot of people find that funny and 'good entertainment'. I don't watch t.v. at all, so I'm not expressing a personal view on the matter here.
The difference being that Alf Garnett was a fictional character who actor Warren Mitchell actually despised..

Not really lucky is he? In the grand scale of BBC crimes that people have gotten away with, it barely registers. Clarkson would be given a huge bonus by the BBC if he was a kiddie fiddler.

You're right, of course. But does that really matter to the people who find it funny and watch it in large numbers? Nobody in his right mind liked Alf Garnett, and personally, I can't imagine many like Clarkson as such. But it's the antics and attitude they both express that attracts the viewers.
OK TT I will be more specific the person who was assaulted has every right to make a complaint to the police - the fact that he hasn't is effectively, from Clarkson's perspective, "lucky"

I'm sure, I don't condone what he has done. I don't particularly like Clarkson if I'm honest, I think the BBC are using this as a way to claw back a bit of credibility, having seen their shambolic name dragged through the mud by old pervs. It won't wash with me, the BBC are rotten to the core, I'd prefer it if the entire organisation was shut down. I know what you were saying pal, I agree that Clarkson has been fortunate to avoid prosecution. I don't think the BBC have any standards other than satisfying ethnic minorities though so it doesn't surprise me one bit.
I'd sooner watch paint dry than that boring **** on my television. Him and Rob Brydon make me want to fall into a coma. It would help, if they replaced the three presenters with at least one person who knows a little bit about cars. For all their faults, each of the three do actually have extensive knowledge on mechanics, engineering or aviation or a combination of all three in James May's case. Coogan's a prat with a daft catch phrase.
Not watched Top Gear in a good few years (quite frankly it is repetitive now as there is only a finite number of things they can do) however I used to be a huge fan. I do like Jezza and from a business perspective this can only be bad news. That being said, they have made the right decision. All the "racism" etc (he plays up to it in my opinion but that is a different conversation all together) never really bothered me. This, is definitely a sackable offence. If I sparked someone out and brought my employers into disrepute as a result, I would get the chop!

Clarkson, 54, assaulted Oisin Tymon for around 30 seconds, while shouting "derogatory and abusive language" so loudly it could be heard in a hotel bedroom, a BBC report has found. The attack at the Simonstone Hall Hotel, in North Yorkshire, was only stopped when a witness intervened, BBC Director General Tony Hall said. Now North Yorkshire Police has asked the BBC for its report and said action will be taken "where necessary".
Not a Coogan fan myself nor do I like 90% of his comedy characters. But I'm Alan Partridge is my favorite sitcom all time though personally I think it's more down the genius that is Armando Iannucci who helped him develop the character and basically turning it into a top class sit com, even though it's Coogan's character, I don't really credit him for it. Can't stand Brydon either so I'm with you really. Just saw the story and it made me chuckle.
