I guess you have no experience of working under a manager then? If he is like any other manager in any profession, he will delegate most of the work to Phelan. Phelan takes the training sessions, all the drills etc. Bruce does watch them in training obviously, but Phelan will advise Bruce on certain things, whether or not Bruce takes it on board or not is up to him. It seems to me that Bruce has stopped playing round pegs in square holes since Phelan has come in, a coincidence? I think not.

Agree with that, in fact the best thing Phelan has done was pick two strikers to play up front against Man City straight away.

I've always thought of Bruce has a old fashion type of manager. Who manages the club and oversees everything.

With newer breed of 'head coaches' like Rodgers and Pochettino they are more coaches then managers.

I think people are exaggerating Phelans input, and in all honesty it's quite disrespectful to Bruce. He's the manager and people are making out Phelan is doing his job for him.

Davies and Robertson were both absolutely turgid against Newcastle. In Davies case he has also been poor for ages, and Robertson has just returned from injury (slightly early I think as well).

It was the right decision to drop em both and I think Bruce for all his faults was capable of seeing that and making the decision for himself.

The way some people talk about Phelan this, Phelan that, what's the point in even having Bruce at the club? The way some people go on you'd have thought Bruce is just off on his jollies whilst Phelans running the whole show.
You can bet it will be Brucey's fault when we lose. Not that we're going to lose again this season.

Mainly cos of Phelan.

Of course it will be.

Phelans genius when we do well.

Bruce's failure when we don't.

It's not that, we have clearly changed since phelan has taken over! you can see it in the way we play, he seems to of brought something that Bruce wasn't bringing. I think its fitness and confidence.

lets imagine huddlestone didn't foul aguero and gift them a goal, we would be 1 win away from the number of wins we had for the entire season, that isn't just coincidence.

Wise words

Make no bones about it, Bruce brought Phelan in to save his job, same as Agnew was brushed aside. It's funny how so many players are/were underperforming and some people still seem to think it's not Bruce's fault, he was a few games away from the sack as far as I am concerned. I wouldn't sack Bruce even if we got relegated, I like him a lot, but he is responsible for a lot of our ****ey season, imo.

I think Davies wil re-gain his form. I don't want him to leave. I think Phelan will work on him.

Yes, Phelan is a big reason for our better approach over last couple of games.

Robertson is definitely a Bale type of player as someone mentioned and I hope we see more of him over the next few games. I don't think his defending is as bad as some people are making out and I think he is much better than Brady going forward, especially his crossing.

I wish someone would brush me aside by getting me a 5 year contract on more money nearer to home.

So why didn't Steve fight to keep hold of him? I'm sure City could have matched his wages or even bettered them.

Because a 5 year contract is a weird thing to give an assistant manager when the manager doesn't have one that long, unless you've also given the assistant some sort of future job role as part of the deal.

It will be interesting to see who is surplus to requirements at the end of the season. With Mcguire likely to be in contention next season, Chester, Dawson will be first choice, so it will remain to be seen out of Davies, Bruce and Macca who will be surplus to rquirements.

I think phelan is largely an inluence on why davies isn't playing, you could put robertson into that aswell. He most likely saw our weakness when he watched from the stands against newcastle and watched them in training. Robertson defensively is very poor/inexperienced and in a relegation fight, that is not what we need and davies is badly off form.
Robertson is pretty poor defensively
At least twice on Sunday he slashed defensive clearances across the field to Chelsea players
Can't fault him attacking wise though

I'm sure Robertson will only improve the defensive side office game, as he is still very young and a bonus for us on how he is playing. He does make mistakes but hopefully those are all part of the learning and getting experience in order to better himself. Im sure Steve the Bruce will be working with him in training on that side of his game.
Look how the post sunday dinner kick around in the Bruce garden has brought junior on, you wouldn't have seen him dumping Costa on his backside of it wasn't for those kick arounds, and extra Yorkshire Puddings.
