Tbh LFC have never put him on the market, have not said he's for sale and so have not put a price on him. Its more a case of him believing the hype in the tabloids and his agent believing it also, ok the lad is on 35k a week and deserves a better deal, but 115k a week more?
Given his progress over the last two seasons i think 80/90k would be a reasonable wage for him. He is still very young and should be looking at starting the big negotiations in 3/4 years time when established and consistant.
To give him a pay rise of 115k a week in one go would be counter productive because hes blackmailing us to get it and it paves the way for unrest within the squad and opens the door for others to try the same.
Suarez got that much money by scoring over 30 league goals in a season. Sterling has 6. Do the maths.
Someone (his agent?) has convinced him he is good enough to get in the Madrid/Barca sides, he is nowhere near that good. In 2/3 years time he may get there, but only if he keeps improving.
Not sure about the PFA reaction to that He would be a fool to leave now, he is trusted to play every week in a high placed team even when his form drops. Brendan has shown faith in him, built his confidence and in general handled him very well, he has years yet to get that "dream move" all players go on about.
And a prime example of the hype surrounding Sterling's worth. They tell me to buy English players but Raheem Sterling would cost £100m, says Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ity-boss-Manuel-Pellegrini.html#ixzz3Ub2tsc7j Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook
Suarez got his contract before scoring thirty in a season. He left for Barca after getting thirty! #pedantic
He would have had a better argument last season when he was very good but he's been a shadow of that player this season IMO. Of course, he's also had more pressure and a bigger burden to carry this year too, plus no SAS to distract the defenders
That's a fair estimate IMO. We'd want at least £40m for him (I don't think anyone would pay that BTW) but more if it's a rival so call it £50m to Man City. Man City would have to pay him the £150k peer week on a five year deal, that's another £39m. Plus signing on fee, agents fees, bonuses etc
Yep, (rivalry aside) Suarez brought the very best out of Coutinho, Sterling and Sturridge. This season only Coutinho looks like the player he was last season but he doesn`t have the same options when he is on the ball.
But the point is, City, Chelsea, Arsenal or Utd wouldn't pay that kind of money for him(not that they'd want him anyway)so its all false and speculation, but the lad himself obviously believes it or has been brainwashed to believe it by his agent. When Rodgers named him in the Starting line up tonight Sterling probably thought "they can't play without me", but his overall contribution showed he can and shouldnbe dropped instead of kissing his arse just to show him who's boss.
Coutinho has looked a better player this year, if anything Coutinho suffered as a result of how successful SAS+Sterling was. Sterling kept getting the number ten role behind SAS but doesn't get a look in now because of how good Coutinho has been.
Regardless of who played the 10, Coutinho had great success with his passes finding Suarez in the wide positions and also made i possible for Sterling to play 10 by creating space for him.
Personally I hope we keep Sterling and Henderson. As a transistional team we play like a shower of ****e. But if the team is kept together we can be a threat next season. Sterling is a very good player and only just 20. Give him 110K and say we can look at it again next summer. Whack in a big release clause at the same time. Hendo is going to be Captain next year and is really growing into that role and is regularly getting us the goals we need. Give him 110K aswell. They are two massively influential players for us and should be for many years to come. Hendo has fought for his career at Liverpool and Sterling has come up through the ranks. You dont throw that kind of thing away. Women use their bodies to hold us to ransom and we dont get rid of them as they give us what we want. I think Hendo and Sterling are part of the core who will bring some Glory back to Anfield and for that reason we need to keep them. And we will!!! Neither will leave anytime soon
My point was, Coutinho was constantly in and out of the side last year and rarely completed ninety minutes when he did play.
Do you think that was a stamina problem? it seems lots of players suffer from it these days which baffles me.
