Hi all, I ddon't post often as i'm more of a reader :) but after a great game against chelsea i was looking at the man u v spurs game and trying to work out what resut i wanted.

If i'm hoping for a top 4 spot, then either a draw or a spurs win is best, but if hoping for tp 6 then a man u win would be best. Not that what i want will effect the result :)

I'm confused! Maybe will just watch the game and let the result show me our best hope lol but personally feel that top 4 is a tretch to far, but top 6 is a reachable target, so gonna have to support Man U.

If we win the games we should win, I would still back us to go over Spurs and/or Liverpool. Top 4 is possible but unlikely if other teams don't start dropping points, though of course they have to play each other (like this afternoon). A Sky pundit said earlier that ManU aren't interesting to watch, but are grinding out results. I will feel the most upset about that rabble finishing above us. Although I don't like Spurs, at least they are beginning to play football.
 
Definite shot at top six. To make the top four, we need to play some of our best football down the stretch, Manchester United to finish poorly (and we reeeeeeeally need them to drop points today), and Spurs/Liverpool to turn some wins into draws. All possible, but there's a lot beyond our control even if we rack up the points.
 
We really needed Spurs to win if we are looking at the bigger picture. But Man Utd have some tricky fixtures coming up so it is still possible.
 
On the other hand, ManU are rather dodgy (though getting points when playing badly), so it may be useful to have a form side like Spurs stopped in their tracks. This weekend has been psychologically good for Saints...a point at Stamford Bridge resulting from a good team performance and a rise of one place (even though only on GD). Shows the season isn't petering out. The team will believe in the manager even more....lounging in sun bad, fresh air games in cold good).


P.s. wasn't suggesting ManU played badly on Sunday.
 
I'll be happy with a top 6 finish, ecstatic with a top 4 finish.

As long as we're above Tottenham and Liverhampton!
 
The chucklesome truth is that, for all that ambition we were informed of last year, none of the players who left will finish with that many more points than us. In fact, only Saints can really have shown ambition in terms of improved position as a club :)

Maybe Man U will improve their league placing but their football has been awful to watch.
 
I still can't understand why people seem to be drawing this line between Liverpool and Man Utd. Surely if we can catch Liverpool, then we can catch Man Utd too? Liverpool could quite easily be ahead of Man Utd in the table come six days time.

I didn't understand people being so happy to write Liverpool off each week for the first X months of the season (I was always concerned about them going on a run, and/or us dropping a few points), and I don't understand this now.

I agree with you on your first point st_b. On the second, about Liverpool being up there; they weren't showing huge signs that they'd be there or thereabouts. They were merely adequate, but around December they upped their form dramatically while everyone else had a blip here or there.

With 9 games to go it's all up in the air. Importantly, the teams around us have to play each other. Saints have done most of that and only have Spurs [H] and Citeh [A]. That might play to our advantage and/or it could all hinge on the last day. Personally, I think Europe is a done deal. It's the manner of competition we're in next season.
 
After this weekend's results Spurs and ourselves look like being cast adrift in the race for Top 4!! Would be really chuffed if we manage to get 6th, despite the dubious privilege of the Europa League - we can see the effect it has had on Everton's season thus far!! Having a much smaller squad that Spurs and Liverpool they have struggled.
 
As I keep saying check out the run-ins before you sign us off. Even the pundits have noticed. Only on Sunday, after the matches, pundits were giving their opinions on who were in the mix, and several were excluding Spurs but including Saints, based upon the games to come. Top 4 is by no means out of reach.

I predicted 6th at the start of the season, but I think we can do better.
