who do you think will come in and will we see an influx of his players joining us. would hate to see a load of new signings coming in, would you. I assume we do still want Bruce out?
We might have to sack him, cos if today comes off we'll have **** all happening for the rest of the window.... Only a new gaffer would rectify this.
I think they will be well supported anyway Syd. I am looking forward to seeing the ones we have signed already. If the 2 other lads come, it will be bedlam next week?
OK. I'll rise to the bait. Steve Bruce is obviously in his element right now. He is excellent at recruiting - nobody in their right mind is going to contradict that - and he is exploiting his contacts to the full. A great man to have around at this time. The crunch comes when on the training ground and by the side of the field on matchdays when man management and tactics come to the fore as essential skills. That is when he has been found wanting. He has been given another (third) chance (which I wouldn't have given him) and I only hope that the massive influx of "his" players will get us over the hurdle of January to April. But there are no guarantees. My jury is still out.
I was (am?) a critic of SB. Like most on here I am chuffed and amazed at what is happening. He is now into his third season and by now - given the support he has from both owner and chairman - things should be seen to be improving. Lets hope the players gel, we don't lose any of our best players in this transfer window and the injury list is kept to a minimum this coming season. Of course we will support SAFC - as usual! BUT, if it doesn't work this time - especially in our first home game, I defend the right to critisise the manager. x
On the rate Steve Bruce thread i gave him 5/10. This has now gone up to 7/10 with some great work in the transfer market. However, I still have my reservations about his tactical ability and team selections, as well as his inability to change a game if things are going wrong i.e a plan 'B'. The squad that he has now assembled should give him plenty of options, so there can be no excuses next season. Although I am as happy as the rest of you about all of the new faces, my one concern is how long it will take for the new look team to gel, when we take into consideration who our opposition is in the first home game of the season! Everyone has to hit the ground running at Anfield.
He has till Christmas, this has been my line through various debates and I'll stick with it still. The signings made to date should give us a chance of a convincing top ten finish, if he struggles then he must shoulder the blame, these are good signings - how they perform as a team is down to Bruce. I wish him well and hope like hell the team achieves its potential.
