I could be wrong, but I get the impression that you don't like him very much.

As for Top Gear, it stopped being a car review show a long time ago. It is all completely contrived of course, but I find it very entertaining.

Just find him boring, no big deal. Relatively harmless, easily ignored. The reaction of his 'supporters' is entertaining.

Interesting, yet misconceived point. Clarkson doesn't try to make political commentary or suggest in any manner that his views are to be taken seriously at all. He is an entertainer. Brand believes his own hype. Brand moves beyond his natural area of acting/comedy to promote his political views, Clarkson does not do so. In his wisdom, Brand promotes the view that we should not vote at all whereas Clarkson just takes the pi55 out of various celebs/politicians. They are different animals entirely and not really comparable.

Positive discrimination on panel shows, Billions wasted on tofu and sandals, seemingly covered or turned a blind eye to numerous cases of child sexual abuse, and even used to find time to scare the poorer viewers with threats of fines & prison for license evasion. Lovely bunch.

They are bonkers and overtly offensive to me and many others. Seen any old women on there recently? no their quotas are only for young women. Give it a few years and the same women who benefit from discrimination start to decry it when their faces drop off the screens. Sandy Toksvig & Jason Manford have both said the same and they work there.

Its entertainment, give people want they want, not Committee generated box ticking homogenies of a hippie vegans wet dream.

I hope Top Gear is taken over by a more deserving presenter who actually knows what a good car should be.

The antics of the presenters are what entertains, but as a car review programme, it's rubbish.

If Clarkson's media persona is some kind of satirical creation, he is smarter than I gave him credit for. I don't think it is, though.

Clarkson is a an old fool and would probably be the first to admit it. 99% of TV is absolute rubbish which is why I never watch it. How can the top people at the BBC complain about anything when they are responsible for letting BBC3 (and it's dire content) exist.

Well said. Due to a mix up last night (misplaced tickets) I had to take Mrs Iwas to the cinema as opposed to seeing Paul Weller. Only film free at the time was called Second Marigold Hotel, a dire monstrosity of a waste of two hours of my life and full of ancient actors. It was like looking at a bag of prunes, utterly unpleasant. Ban em from the Beeb says I.

Martin Brundle certainly made the F1 show a lot more interesting on ITV, but like Clarkson he sometimes got himself into hot water. I was actually at that race in Montreal.

Martin Brundle's 'pikey' gaffe sparks equality row after F1 pit interview with Ecclestone

Montreal is known for its comedy, but it was no laughing matter for ITV commentator Martin Brundle after he found himself at the centre of an quality row.

Speaking to F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone during his traditional live interviews prior to the Canadian Grand Prix, Brundle used the word 'pikey' in reference to track repairs that workers had carried out overnight.

Brundle, 49, said: "There are some pikeys there at turn 10 putting tarmac down - what do you think of that?"

The frantic nature of the build-up to the race left both unfazed by the remark, but the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the racial equality watchdog, condemned the phrasing.

A spokesman said: "This word has been used on television in the past and is highly derogatory. They have caused much offence in the past."

The remark came after tarmac began crumbling away from the track during weekend qualifying. Drivers were also quick to pass judgement on the surface saying their lap times were significantly slower.

'Pikey' is as a slang term to gypsies or travellers but has now been coined as a general term for anyone living with no fixed abode.

A spokesman for ITV said: "We apologise for any offence caused by this remark." He added that it was too early to say if there had been any complaints made against Brundle.

Last December, a Sussex gardener is believed to have made legal history when he was convicted of racially aggravated harassment for using the word.

I don't particularly hate Jeremy Clarkson and used to quite like Top Gear as an entertainment program about 5 years ago.

I don't get this clamouring for him to be reinstated as a spokesperson against the PC brigade (perhaps because most would believe that I am one).

If I wanted to listen to someone casually throwing in lazy stereotypes, I think Prince Phillip is far funnier. If you want someone to be challenging the status quo then I'd think that most alternatives on a topical panel show is doing the same thing far better.

I find Top Gear boring these days, 3 middle aged men trying to act like teenagers, lost it's sparkle and wit a few years ago.......I enjoy Clarkson's column in the Sunday Times though, perhaps he should stick to that in future.

Not a petrolspotter so never watch TopGear, and not a fan of either Clarkson or Brand - but there's plenty who do like Clarkson (or rather his TV persona) and I can see that audience is not really catered for on the TV. Unless you include Farage - who seems to have nicked Clarkson's act.

It was only a matter of time before the PC brigade took Clarkson off the BBC.

I like the man despite both his Sunday Times columns becoming a bit reptitive and Topgear becoming the Clarkson Show and rather tired too. At least he has the nerve to express an opinion, rather than the inane, lickspittle, ar5elicking garbage being the dirge most other presenters troll up. We don't even have Paxman anymore.

I do miss personalities on TV or in the media generally. Everything seems so watered down, so Radio 2, so Simon Cowell, so very, very Nick Clegg. It's utterly depressing.

Saw a BBC news item today about the police apologising to the parents of the girls who have travelled to Syria to join the murderous psychopaths out there. It just beggars belief that our underfunded law enforcement should, in any manner whatsoever, have to begin to consider wasting their valuable time responding to criticism for this. This is England, now the land of PC lunatics who might be offended by Clarkson who I am sure would agree with the sane majority and suggest that the parents of those girls might be rather more at fault.

Agree entirely with sentiment about the dumming down on the BBC. It is constantly seeking to pander to the lowest common denominator rather than educate listeners.

BBC five live radio is a good example which has sunk badly. A week or two ago, there was a story on the media about the Black Death in the Middle Ages (around 1348) being spread by gerbils rather than rats as originally thought. "Drive" presenter Tony Livesey (not the Brain of Britain but he has a northern accent so qualifies under BBC politically correct rules) announces that he will be discussing the role guinea pigs played in the disaster. When asked when exactly the Black Death was, he hadn't a clue, so another presenter helped him out by suggesting it was just before the Great Fire of London in 1666 (thus mixing it up with the plague of 1665).

There are so many examples. Adrian Chiles is particularly dire. I listen to LBC now, when I get the chance, which has some bright and knowledgeable presenters (and am prepared to put up with bloody advert repeats rather than suffer BBC dross).

As for Clarkson, it is totally unacceptable to go about punching people. Does he know anything about football? There's a vacancy at Millwall...

Reading newspaper reports this morning, suggests he may be perfectly qualified for the Milwall vacancy, apparently it was all over a meal at the conclusion of a day of filming.

In the BBC, it is shocking. As an institution, it is there to raise standards. It's failing badly and should lose its charter imho. Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised at its decline when it's overseen by a tax-evasion promoting banker that is more interested in earning huge fees (over £1/2m per annum) from HSBC.
