“I believe the (Liverpool v Blackburn) replay is early April, the 7th or 8th,” said Rodgers.

“It is certainly not what it is for Reading and Bradford. That is unbelievable.

“I feel for them, having to play Saturday and again on Monday. It is incredible. It’s unfair for both clubs with so much at stake. I feel sorry for Parky and for Steve and for the players.”

“The fixtures are tough and it certainly doesn’t help. But we just deal with it and we now have to go to Blackburn and win but we are more than capable of doing that.”

Rodgers was also once again critical of the state of the Anfield pitch which he says hinders the way his side plays.

“I’ll say it again the pitch makes it tough,” Rodgers said. “You can see yourself it certainly does not help us. When it comes to playing games you certainly want it to be an advantage. If there’s any team it doesn’t help it’s us.”

Blackburn manager Bowyer:

“Our players were pleasantly delighted to see so much grass on the pitch at Anfield,” he said.

“Brendan was complaining about the pitch here. Wait until he sees Ewood. It makes this look like Wembley.” <yikes>

I'm sure it's worse. But we're a top PL club and one of the richest in the world. Why pay big money for ball-players and then even things up by playing in a park?

BR has made several references to it too, some quite some time ago. I thought it was getting relaid but maybe you can only do that at certain times.

Needs at least a couple of months bedding in time I think

So it'll be relaid at the end of the season then. Ah well, what is it...5 more home matches.....before digging it up then. Just strange that it ever got like that in the first.

Liverpool may be forced to play on their deteriorating pitch for another season because of Anfield's redevelopment.

Liverpool's owners acknowledge the problem but cranes are scheduled to be on the pitch during June as contractors step up work on the new £100million main stand to add 8,500 extra seats to Anfield’s capacity.

The current pitch is a Desso GrassMaster but it was given a ten-year lifespan and is now 14 years old.

Groundstaff have been forced to to patch it up each season.

The drainage and irrigation system dates back even further to 1998. There is no sprinkler system with a hose used to water the pitch before matches.
