On Jonny Evans allegedly spitting at Papiss Cisse on Monday: “As I’ve said in last night’s press conference, Jonny was not aware that he was spitting. It’s a natural thing for a human being, it wasn’t his intention. I cannot imagine that Jonny Evans could do something like that, and he’s also said that. I believe him, so the matter is done. I think the FA is very wise.”

"Not aware he's spitting"

Jesus, does he actually realise what he's saying?

'Manchester United defender Jonny Evans insists he did not spit at Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse when they clashed in last night's Premier League match.

Evans says: "I am shocked to have seen the media coverage from last night's match. I would like to make it clear that I did not spit at Papiss Cisse.

"I was totally unaware of any spitting incident and had assumed that the issue at the time was with the challenge and his attempted retaliation to the tackle from the floor."

"It is not in my character or in my nature to spit at anybody nor is it something I have ever done or would ever do. It is certainly not something that I did last night."'

I would have had to ask him as press so cisse didn't gob on you either and you didn't react at all to his gob hitting you then!

So here's the thing

If this were smalling, Jones or Ferdinand or vidic I would say ok I can buy the I didn't mean to stuff but this is the guy who dived in two footed the rolls around pretending he's the guy who got kicked so I don't believe a word of it and would not put it past him

The Dutch feller will be fuming.

Shteve, matth, Christian and that other feller on the thread will be seething.<whistle>
You're judging us by your own club's / fan's standards. I accept Evans did something wrong and deserves whatever punishment he gets. I won't be making excuses for spitting in the same way I wouldn't have made excuses for racism or biting.

Really, any chance of a link to show excuses for racism or biting by me, or any others for that matter?

You're a twisted **** trying to tar everyone with the same brush,.

Man Utd's Evans pleads innocence, Newcastle's Cisse apologises

[HASHTAG]#noclass[/HASHTAG] from Man Utd, give them a 12 game ban <ok>

BBC Sport's Simon Stone at Carrington: "After starting today's press conference with an apology for being late and offering an assessment of the spitting row that has engulfed the club and triggered statements from both Papiss Cisse and Jonny Evans, Louis van Gaal took exception to being asked about his relationship with assistant manager Ryan Giggs.

"First Van Gaal said his relationship was 'very bad' and wanted the rumours to continue. Then he said he was irritated at being asked the question.

"Finally he widened his targets to headlines which suggested he thought something when, in his opinion, he was merely answering loaded questions, such as United lacking a 20-goal a season striker - something he did not feel anyone could deny because no-one has done it yet.

"The Dutchman tends to fix his targets with a steely glare - and is not quick to avert his gaze. All very odd."

WTF is even going on any more?

It's a disgusting thing to do. Biting and spitting come into the same category as far as I'm concerned although it could be argued biting is childish behaviour that should be well grown out of as an adult, spitting is a learned behaviour, it's meant to disrespect and humiliate the victim. At least one of the culprits isn't in denial.

The press treating him like Fergie won't help them in the long run, he's done nothing of note in England and doesn't deserve preferential treatment, he'll soon resort to banning them for asking "uncomfortable" questions like Lord Buckfast did.
