I'm assuming that Henderson will take over the captaincy when Gerrard moves on. So who should we be looking at for our next vice captain? There are a few candidates that come to mind - Can and Sakho would be my preference. But everyone is bound to have a subjective opinion on this. So what are peoples views? I must say I personally prefer a defensive minded player to be captain, as they can see the whole game played out in front of them - and give out bollockings when necessary A couple of video's to wet the appetite CAN: SAKHO: #goodbyecaptainfantastic
P.S. If anyone says Allen, I will get your IP address and come round with a shotty and blow your brains all over your front room....
Rodgers has said that it is not necassarily going to be Henderson for captain. I think it will be though which is something that worries me I just don't think he's ready. I've said Lucas previously for Captain so will stick him in for VC.
The role of the team captain is over egged in this country. That said Henderson strikes me as a big wet fish and about as inspiring as Nick Clegg.
TBF he leads by example, worke rate and determination etc but I want more from a captain and Hendo doesn't have that end product that elavates him into a Gerrard who again lead by example more than vocally. Carra then was by example and vocally and I prefer that type of captain, someone who everyone respects and who is also able to speak with people and get the best out of them. I don't think we have that character in the squad at the moment.
Sakho and Can. Can is very young and been at the club for 2 mins, but he has shown many leadership qualities. It certianly comes naturally to him. Whilst he's young, I can sense he already commands respect. Most importantly - not only are these two guys physically imposing, but they're also quality players. Being hard nut alone isn't enough to earn respect.
Would you want to add the potential burdon of captaincy to a young player who is still developing and learning his game and position within the team in Can. Im guessing Skrtel will be given the nod given he's older and more experienced and I think is captain for Slavakia?
Oh god, please not Skrtel. He can't lead a defence let alone a team. Always needs his hand holding, takes no responsibility.
I wouldn't see it as a burden - I think leadership comes natural to players at any age. Whilst he may not be the official leader, Can certainly takes responsibility.
i think................... give it to the biggest ego cos thats what it seems to be for... henderson's let it go to his head... just like a beckham for england style effort. Lets give it to balotelli.
