Maybe you mean the claims made by the person who committed the foul?

I would take such claims with a pinch of salt. He wouldn't be the first person to make something up. If there was any truth in it I would think the FA would have an interest or at least comment on it.

Has anyone told the FA Rooney has admitted diving. What better way to look tough on it than punishing a high profile England player?

Jeezus, someone asked you earlier where Rooney denied that he made the apology and as you know he hasn't denied it, so that leaves us to either believe or disbelieve the keeper, what reason has he got to lie?

Over to you, I'm off to watch the game.<ok>

They never did anything when he admitted diving against Slovenia, or when he admitted diving in the CL a few years back, so why would they now? If a Man Hoof player comes up against an 'independent' FA inquiry they do **** all anyway.

  9. With how close the keeper was to Rooney, it's exactly the same. The keeper was never going to touch Rooney, Rooney could have continued his normal stride without risking a hair and then he scored have scored without having to rob a lower ranked side.

Only thing that looks worse than Rooney cheating is your attempted defence of him <laugh>

Would you say the "win at all costs" also applies to football tactics? Although I don't like or accept cheating, I find the idea of teams playing anti-football just to avoid relegation equally (if not more) against the spirit of the game. It's one of the reasons I like watching La Liga. A team can be fighting relegation but they will go out to PLAY football, not sit deep and defend for their lives hitting long balls to relieve pressure momentarily (cue United jibe!) and you won't hear fans cheering their defenders as they clear the ball into row Z. Ofcourse teams there don't want to get relegated, but to them the sport, the game, sticking to a footballing philosophy, is far more important to them and if they aren't good enough so be it - they get relegated and earn their place back again. The same applies for teams going for European places. You won't see a Big Sam Bolton type team qualifying for the Europa league from there. I think in many ways, the "win at all costs" mentality is similar for cheating as it is for club tactics, and in particular the one similarity in this country is both are driven by money. I don't want to bang on about La Liga or continental football, but at least for them, the culture of diving is based on gaining one-upmanship, an art in itself and really is seen as a 'positive' part of the game (rightly or wrongly I'm not condoning that thinking), rather than because of other influences which affect their overall approach to football.

Exactly, he'd have no reason to deny making the apology.

Now you're getting what we've been saying since Monday night.<ok>

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is preparing to spend in excess of £150m on five new players - a right back, centre back, midfielder, winger and striker - in the summer. (Daily Express)
