It doesn't have to be an ideal world, just a slightly less scummy one

If RVP was on the pitch and designated penalty taker Rooney would have tried to stay on his feet #fact

You can't legislate for 'fans' behaviour way outside of stadia, and punish clubs for their behaviour

Where do you draw the line? when they've got 10 miles away, 20 miles away, 500 miles away?

These incidents have **** all to with football, they're just scrotes being scrotes. In this case the French and English authorities need to find and prosecute the individuals involved, and they should get football banning orders.

Good question but for another day.

The player could do the honourable thing but what happens when he is actually taken out and injured?

We say he should have dived and avoided the challenge.

The penalty was awarded for the intent. The who debate it has sparked is irrelevant.

  5. I've always thought punishing clubs for fans behaviour to be very harsh, especially on the innocent people associated to the club but what else can be done? These people supposedly love the club so it hurts them if the club is punished.

How long does it take to watch a slo mo clip and figure out the right call? More often than not it's a matter of seconds.

I think most fans would accept a few seconds delay, if it meant the right call being made. I know I would.

And rooney would have still won a penalty. The keeper was lucky he didnt catch him as he wohld have been sent off and Prestons season takes a blow.

I really don't mean this to be humorous but could you see those points deducting measures encouraging fans to go out causing trouble while wearing rival team colours?

The #fact the ref gave a yellow not a red proves you are talking nonsense and the ref was conned by Rooney's simulation

    Give it up mate ffs.

Even Rooney himself admits he dived.

You've got a bad case of the 'astro's' here

Where has Dowd confirmed it was given for intent?

It was given because Rooney went down as if there was contact, he'd have sent the keeper off if he decided there was intent to injure Rooney.

Just admit it was a dive and let's move on.<ok>

I agree. I'm not going into our specific history but everyone associated with the club carries the shame when individuals behave badly which is unfair but I don't know how you change that. Similarly if players behave badly the club and fans can't escape criticism - we're all in it together ..

  14. You're talking as though he had a decision to make. He didn't. The keeper was no where near him and him blatantly dived. You're asking hypothetical questions, what if it had been Gerrard or Suarez rather than Rooney? <laugh>

I assume you've seen the comments from the Preston keeper? <whistle>

  15. I'm not against it, just saying its a whole different topic. I'd be for it <ok>

as far as i am concerned when robbie fowler had this in the 90s he told the ref and the ref told him to chuff off and take the pen.... IMO the keeper rushed out stupidly threw a leg out and got what he got.

i think there no issue here bar banter

for replays.... this is what a 4th bloody offical is for.. there should be no replays in the ground for riot control and 4th offical should watch back 3/4 views in 30s and there should be no issue.

managers should not be allowed to be near him on this and any remonstrations should mean an automatic 3 match stadium ban as well.

    really ****ing simple

You're still avoiding the fact that Rooney could easily have evaded that challenge and stayed on his feet. Nobody is questioning his right to avoid an injury, just his inability to stay upright when hitting the ground from an altitude of 12 inches.

I think that might be ok if the ball goes out of play, or play is stopped for another reason- I'm not sure I'd like to see the flow of a game interrupted while these decisions are made.
Might as well go and watch American :emoticon-0119-puke: Football.
