Sorry but link between heading footballs and brain damage? Seriously? Niall Quinn and Alan Shearer seem to have avoided brain damage and I'm pretty sure they headed a fair few thousand, if not hundred thousand, between them!

Do they want to ban headers?

5 of my family have suffered Alzheimer's and 3 of my wife's eldeley relatives have also. None of them headed a ball in their lives.

Seems a little strange this one. I'm all for the MH17 and stuff like that but a guy who used to play suffered dementia so it's to do with header inn a ball? Don't get it myself.

The footballs they used to play with are one thing. But nowadays I reckon it's totally different.

He was a great player and a great character too..I'm a bit wary of this campaign though as if successful the lawyers will have a field day and football will suffer as it may lead to a banning of heading the ball..

End of football reg! I never saw him play but my dad did. He agrees that this is a frivolous campaign and 15 years heading a leather heavy lump of a ball is totally different to nowadays.

The balls were maybe slightly heavier in Astle's day to what they are now, but they were nothing compared to the balls used in the pre war days right up until the 1950's that used to soak up the water and weigh as much as a medicine ball...

Footballs are lighter than ever. Surely technology will have already solved the problem? That is indeed if there was actually a problem in the first place. So what is the campaign actually for? What does it hope to gain? Where could the exposure and awareness lead? No disrespect indented to the lad or his father but I just don't get it. I'll not boo but I won't be applauding.

Don't understand what it is about illness or disease that warrants an applause either. An applause insights approval, so is it to pat the campaign on the back? Or is it congratulate the man for dying a terrible death? Just don't get it all myself, I don't mean to be callus, sorry.

No apology necessary. I also can't see any point! If they ban heading will we watch games that are "no over head height"? Pulis and Stoke would be ****ed

Yes, but all his hair fell out!

Apparently by the way, scientists have discovered a huge breakthrough in Alzheimer's recently and if found early enough they can do some great things with it, I was half asleep when it was on the news but I remember thinking it was great, my Gran has it, way too late for her though.

Lots of campaigns for people, if the football world can help, then it's a good thing I say, unless it's for some slut to get a boob job on the NHS!

Ha! Every patch would come off and they'd swell about double the size. Swear some of them had wire framework in them that would become bare at the hexagon angles

Every time it rained the only lad who turned up with a ball was the lad who had a casey, you just knew at some point you were gonna hear that squelch as it mushed into your grid.

Boot it 40ft in the air and it wouldn't bounce when it hit the deck, you'd just see about a pint of water splashing out of it and 8 lads all trying to slide tackle into it. <laugh>

Not something I am behind to be honest.

Sport is followed by injuries. I think everyone knows that. I don't think awareness needs raising.

Sad that the bloke died but to suggest that he needs justice isn't right in my opinion.

    Sponge is the future.

We get lads through the summer looking for a bit of training, asking if we hit in the face... **** sake, no pal there's a special place for people like you, it's called Canal Street.

Ah memories, You'd get great pleasure from smashing it square into your mates back, it would leave a massive print. You'd also kick **** out if it in the plastic bag so it would rip and the whoever brought it had to carry it all day.
