Hi Taff,a well reasoned post, and nothing controversial to fall out about.

My post was in response to the Laudrup hater from Penclawdd. He really DOES have a problem with him,and I like to wind him up.

Stats and opinions re different Managers are endemic here now,and will continue, until Monk,a) leaves,or,b)he actually wins/achieves something meaningful.
I don't want to rain on your parade, but winning the Manager of the Month Award is rather insignificant, and not something I would boast about.
Monk's points haul still only has the team in 9th,which is where the team finished under Laudrup.
One could argue that Monk is benefitting from a particularly poor Premier League. See how fallacious stats can be?

Monk would have to win a major Cup,take us into Europe, get to the later stages of the tournament, play good football, and finish 9th,or above,to be as good as Laudrup. Not going to happen.
Just my opinion. Other opinions are available, and worthy of consideration.
All the above doesn't gloss over the fact that,in general terms, the team has regressed, and playing crap most of the time.
Some are happy with that, however. <cheers>
Vetch - can't disagree with your comments.

Personally, I think that Laudrup did wonderfully well during his first season. At times, the football was sublime (first half at home against WBA), a Top 10 finish and, of course, the icing on the cake was winning the League Cup, beating Liverpool and Chelsea (the reigning Champions of Europe).

Unfortunately, things, for whatever reason, didn't go so well in his second season (excluding that wonderful evening in Valencia - I've still got the nosebleed from the height of my seat there!! <laugh>) I do wonder whether the root of the problem was his agent, and the falling out with Huw/the Club.

In some respects, the permanent appointment of Monk was a surprise. From a points perspective, he has done better than I had expected at the start of the season, however, as we all know, some of the performances have been "turgid".

However, we must all remember that this is Monk's first full season as a Manager. Both Rodgers and Laudrup were more experienced when appointed by Huw.

Let's hope that next season, we continue to accumulate sufficient points regularly to keep away from the danger zone, whilst at the same time playing the style of football that we showed during our first 3 seasons in the PL.<cheers>

Monk played one game with Laudrup's lads and lost .... our best football Valley, really? I guess it all goes to player attitude .... so sayeth the Monkster ... so of course he's not culpable.

So what would that say about their attitude towards Laudrup because other than the Valancia away game, we were piss poor in the EL ;)

He's always had a problem with ML. I try my best to ignore it. Doesn't always work though <laugh>

I wouldn't mind Zola coming in as his assistant <ok>

One could argue that Monk is benefitting from a particularly poor Premier League. See how fallacious stats can be? - One could equally argue that Laudrup benefitted from a poor Premier League. I mean, he achieved less points than Rodgers but finished two places higher? The bottom half of the Premier League must have been awful that year ;) And Laudrup certainly profited from a weak Europa League group - drawing twice against the whipping boys, Kuban Krasnodar, then losing twice to scrape through on 8 points (second place, on average, picked up 10 points that year). After beating Valencia, Thursday nights were frustrating nights to watch the Swans as we underperformed time and time again, and had St Gallen tucked away their early penalty against us at the Liberty, we could have lost/drawn that game. Ifs, buts and maybes, yes, but saying that Monk is profiting from a poor Premier League is no different to what I've just said about Laudrup's possible 'luck'.

Monk would have to win a major Cup,take us into Europe, get to the later stages of the tournament, play good football, and finish 9th,or above,to be as good as Laudrup. Not going to happen. - Would Monk have to take us on two runs of 1 win in 10 within 6 months to be as bad as Laudrup? I feel like you only selectively remember the good times under Laudrup - which I did seriously enjoy too at the time! We were pretty awful by the end of his reign - despite those fantastic first 28 games of his first season and the Capitol One Cup, we had relegation form, and sometimes performances, from then on. We didn't treat him correctly regarding his sacking, but as far as on the pitch mattered, I felt that the writing was on the wall for Laudrup, maybe 2 or 3 games prior to his sacking.

<cheers>

Well, one thing is for certain,we'll not be scraping through against teams in Europe next year. Unless Cupless takes the team on a preseason tour somewhere exotic.
Neither would we have been this year if Laudrup had stayed on.

So,Laudrup didn't win MOTM Award? Just as well, since his well stocked trophy cabinet is so full, there was no room for such insignificant awards.

Monk,on the other hand, could lease out a couple of acres from his trophy cabinet, and still have room for his Rolex. <laugh>

And you'd better hope we don't hit a run of form. After all, we are only 5 points off Europe in the worst Premier League of all time... ;)

So Laudrup was going to take us from 2 points above relegation to Europe in 14 games?

Now it's you who's playing the ifs, buts and maybes?

No,I only deal in FACTS.

Laudrup DID NOT GET THE TEAM RELEGATED.

Laudrup DID FINISH IN THE TOP HALF OF THE TABLE.

Laudrup DID WIN US THE LEAGUE CUP.

Laudrup DID TAKE THE TEAM INTO EUROPE.

Laudrup DID TAKE THE TEAM INTO THE LATER STAGES OF THE EUROPA CUP.

Laudrup HAD THE TEAM PLAYING SUBLIME FOOTBALL WHICH ENTRANCED AND CAPTIVATED THE FOOTBALLING WORLD.
EVEN CARDIFF FANS' WERE IMPRESSED.

I could go on,but hey, never kick a man when he's down.

Monk has yet to achieve any of the above. <cheers>
