Sorry but Ireland is not the same at all. The demographics are entirely different. We are not as multicultural and diverse as the UK and do not have even remotely similar perentages that should be represented in government as the UK does but doesn't have. In Ireland though, things change even more slowly than in the UK because our establishment is more tightly knit, a small few families run the country and all of the money is held by those few families
I don't need to live there Tobes. I know so many Brits and it's more than occasional when one starts bitching about immigrants and assylum seekers as if they are the cause of woes. Also, it is a FACKT that the Tories are and have been trying to steal the casual racists from UKIP's support base, the casuals are not really racist, only when it comes time to blame someone. I'm not speaking for all Brits, not at all. The vast majority are not racist. Yes Eastern Europeans are slated too, but only the slavs and ones that dont have masters degrees and work for banks ect. And ****ing wake up lad, Racism is rampant in the UK. PC buries most of it, but it's still there. Football is a perfect example, the only reason there are not still bananas thrown on to the pitch is because of the consequences, not because it's wrong

I have no doubt it's there, but Ireland is more of a rackateering thing, this closed group. You forget, Ireland's only involvement in the slave trade was English taking children and selling them abroad. Your establishment were all slave traders back then as well as the cause of much suffering in places like Africa India ect in mordern history, literally killing blacks and asians to make a buck. You're talking about a culture that you're not part of and you're way wide of the mark imo. People moaning about migration and the perceived impact on their standard or living as a direct result of it, isn't racism anyway. As the gripe isn't with the nationality,colour or creed of those coming in, it's with what they're perceived to be taking out. Im not agreeing with their views, but it's not racism. As for the match, I've not heard racist comments in years, and it's not bubbling beneath the surface ffs, our culture has changed, it's not the 1970's anymore lad. Love thy Neighbour is no longer primetime TV.........our society has matured.
More a case of migrants to Ireland not wanting to be farmers as its mainly an agricultural nation, the southern cities of Dublin and Cork have very few problems with race whereas British ruled Belfast in the north has many problems with the issue. Ireland's not known for it's racism as it's not got a diverse culture. If there was a large immigration into the country then I'm certain that'd change, as you're not a nation known for it's tolerance...... As to why I've even mentioned Ireland, maybe that's because an Irish fella who lives in Finland attempting to lecture me on my own countries supposed racist culture, gets up my nose.........
It's not a sit down, listen to this type of situation though is it? It's the way you live your life. If you treat people with respect, that get's picked up on by your kids and they will follow suit. Children pick up the non-verbals equally as well as the verbal messages you send out.

Like "Till Death Us Do Part", "Love Thy Neighbour" was misunderstood by many. It was a satire on the entrenched prejudices shown at the time by many white British people simply unused to the burgeoning multi-ethnicity of the period. The main (white) male character was a bigot, who couldn't cope with the black family moving in next door. In contrast, the black family were urbane, intelligent and more sophisticated. The white guy was made to look a fool in every episode, and the show was meant to highlight and mock unfounded racial prejudices, not reinforce them. Unfortunately, an awful lot of people just don't get satire , and some take the show on face value, and think it advocates racial stereotypes, when it was actually mocking them. It did use language (from both sides) that would be entirely unacceptable today, and so would make uncomfortable viewing now. It was a little bit heavy handed- but it was intended to challenge preconceptions, not promote them.
Very true this, and you're right that aspect has been lost in the total shock factor of the racist language used as 'everyday' in the show. It's that aspect that draws gasps in 2015 and people never even get as far as the satire involved. Not sure there was much satire in Mind your Language like.....
I agree with all of this mate. And why does Love Thy Neighbour come up on every thread about racism??? Only anyone over 50 would remember it anyway.
Tbh, I didn't watch either show much. Couldn't stand Jack Smethurst, and MYL just passed me by, mercifully.
