I haven't read the comments on this thread, but if there has developed pro-Bendtner and anti-Bendtner camps, i'm firmly in the anti-Bendtner camp. Don't rate the lad at all. PLEASE, PLEASE don't sign Bendter, Bruce.
In this country we often misplace confidence for arrogance, I have never heard Bendtner say anything completely ridiculous, just things that show confidence in his own ability. He has a mentality that prevents him from getting depressed over missed chances and means he is never fazed by important matches and that is a positive in my book. When played as a number 9 for us he has performed well and if he was a regular starter for a team then I think he would get 15+ goals a season.
There speaks the voice of reason. I'm for this lad, but straight from some-one who watches him, it's better to know something rather than condeming him. Confident, Arrogant, so what remember Cantona.
Fair points mate but, why doesn't he get regular starts for you lot if he is that good? All we see of him is one good game then a couple of bad ones then dropped to the bench for a few more games. If he can't score in a team like Arsenal who walk the ball into the box at times then give it to the forwards then what chance will he have at us we aren't exactly blessed with the skill some of your lot have. I'm all for confident players it's half the game these days or so we are told but, he thinks he is better than Arsenal so there is very little chance he will even consider Sunderland.
Ive really enjoyed reading those last three well measured comments....The interesting thing for me is that Bruce actually did a Cloughie on this young kid between 2006-7 at Birmingham....He returned his best ratio of goals in his career...He already knows him....If he`s "in his eye"....hes yet another who might come.....Like I said....Jol`s looking at him now and hes not daft!
I can see you point, but from what I have seen of Bendtner he'll try competing with Gyan trying to be the main man. Lets be honest Asamoah is clearly the fans favourite atm would Good Ole saint Nick like that?!
...I can see what you mean too...If there`s a personality clash as there seems to be with say Torres/Drogba it can be deadly....But just look at it another way Bruce wouldnt put up with stuff like that Im sure he`s been schooled in the Fergusons school of hairdrying.....Real Competition for places is actually great/ God forbid if anything happens to Connor youve got a 6`4" forward to step in...(I think by the way hed be competing with Connor and not Gyan...I think he and Gyan would have the potential to be spell binding..... Anyway GDT when I wrote this originally I penned it because I thought lots of folk were kind of bemused by the "deal" rather than focusing on what you`d actually get....It tickles me to think that I said somebody "like" Bendtner...because of his personality...instead of just one big un and a little `un....You can go through all the decades and get stories about players who didnt like other players and yet played in successul teams..........I bet somebody comes in now and starts another thread on that one.........Try talking to somebody who knew Shack!...the other thing is that if anything like that happened 40 000 people would tell him.....hes 23 and he hasnt played for passionate fans yet!
Its a mixture of Wenger being too stubborn to change his formation (which means Bendtner is stuck on the right wing ) and RvP being such a brilliant striker (I think he got 21 goals in 18 appearances from christmas last year). When he has played in his natural position he has not let us down (e.g. hattrick against Porto, scored a goal and got a penalty against Barcelona, consecutive last minute winners for us against Hull and Wolves when we really needed them). Big number 9's like him are rarely the refined at his age, he is still guaranteed to improve.
I don't understand why he gets so much stick. How many players have you heard of who are willing to leave a club in the champions league and on large wages solely because they want to play more? Thats shows great ambition to me, not self-delusion. Besides if he believes that he will be one of the best players in Europe in 5 years then so what? Good for him for showing ambition, even if he knows he will get laughed at for it. I will wish him all the best.
Just watched some of his vids...some good stuff, a good header of the ball... Reckon he'll make it if he gets a chance.
.....As I said at the start I`d like us to buy somebody "like" this lad .....who`ll score against the top clubs....before you buy somebody that should be the main thing for a striker....we shouldnt buy somebody "particularly" whos speedy like N`Gog....can hold the ball up like this Russian....or is brilliant at chasing back/workrate when play breaks down!!!....will his inclusion on the team sheet frighten a top 6 side cos hes sharp as mustard ....and you fancy him like hell to score!........I fancy Gyan to do that ...but he needs a partner
Yes but will he take a pay cut which he'll have to if he came to us and will he come to us to play football? Still don't think he'll even look at us mate and to be honest I'm quite happy with that, would be too big a gamble to see IF he can do it for us which I don't think he would. The top players in Europe bit mate, there's a fine line between ambition and delusion and I'll stick my neck out now and say that in 5 years time he'll not be among the top 50 players in Europe. You happy with Clichy leaving and possibly Nasri (top player in my book) even your namesake if the talk is to be believed? I reckon that would rip the heart out of your team if it does come off.
Sad when players want more than a kings ransom in wages every week. There's only so many clubs, who can afford these players, Someone like Bendtner would have make a good player for us. Always down to money.
I don't know about taking a pay cut but he has never seemed like a player who is motivated by money. Perhaps it is a gamble for you but he will probably leave for about £10 million which isn't that much. I also don't think he will be a top European player in 5 years but who knows! As for Nasri and Clichy all possibly leaving I think Nasri is a **** so won't be too devastated if he goes (although we would need to get a good replacement) and Clichy needed to leave for both our sakes as his development had stalled. I won't deny that it has weakened our team but i don't think either of them are irreplaceable.
I hope Bruce is reviewing his South American Policy ...Whoever you choose now I reckon theyve got to be proven in this league...or youve got to be lucky.....NB in relation to this is not that type of risk ......Hes proven and ready to go.....every time I write now I feel like his agent.....!
