The Canary Dave

Has anyone seen or heard from BabyDan recently - I miss his updates on the training ground - assume he still bangs the drum for 1881 too
Seems as if he is into the NFL these days judging by where he posts.
I also noticed that Minxy is no longer on the staff.

Boy - do I hate the English/Welsh law on house buying / selling. We got an agreed buyer for our Welsh home back in September. That began a saga. Three survey reports, a near tripling of estimated legal costs and three and a half months passed when before Christmas we thought we were ready to exchange within days. then our buyers were told they had to register their property on the land registry contrary to advice they had months earlier. Four weeks later and it was done and all ready to exchange when our buyers own sale fell through as their purchasers could not get insurance as the property was close to the Somerset levels.

Five months wasted. Great. Bring on the French or Scottish system of non-refundable deposits. Back to square one.

With you on that one Leo. We spent nine months (six in temporary rented accommodation) waiting for a house purchase to be completed, at which point the vendor decided to ask for an extra 20k, despite the fact we had agreed a purchase price at the outset. Needless to say, I was not amused and had some choice words both for him and his estate agent.

But did you go ahead and give him/her the extra £20k?

Absolutely not...against my principles, Vic. We started again and bought elsewhere.
Same happened to us years ago on the Cassiobury. We had signed contracts and were due to exchange the next day but got a phone call that the vendor had taken it off the market. A week later we got a call to say she was putting it back on the market at an extra £25k but as we were ready to exchange we could have it for only £20k extra. At that point I explained I would not buy from her even if she reduced the price by £50k.

We had the last laugh as we bought another - we thought better - house and six months later Mrs L saw the house in an Estate Agents window and out of curiosity went in and asked about it. She was told that the poor lady had been let down at the last minute by her buyer. Mrs L laughed and said " I don't think so - she was the one who let us down". About that time the property market was turning and we hope she ended up with a lower price when she eventually sold.

I am happy your mother is safe. My mother stopped driving four years ago as she is becoming blind, she has 91 years now.

My Dad is 91 and last year I managed to persuade him to throw away his keys and stop driving. His reactions are too slow and to be safe he drove slowly and caused others to get impatient and takes risks -wrong of them I know but human nature.

There should be an upper driving age limit.

Morning all. Yorkie - sorry to hear about your mum and glad that she is ok. Very impressed that a 93 year old passes an eye test with flying colours!
