If there's ever been a footballer that's made because of family name then this guy has to be up there close to the top of the list, £8 million for a defender that dosnt want to tackle, dosnt want to get forward and never puts his body on the line for his club is a complete joke, me for one cannot wait to see the back of Anton and god bless the club he goes too!
He was outstanding when we played Bolton at the back end of the season, and if he could keep that level of performance up, would be the first name on the team sheet for me. However, I'm well aware that he hasn't shown that kind of form anywhere near enough.
What a complete load of rubbish this is Anton is a good player, when he comes into the side he never lets anyone down and does a good job no matter wer he plays, you never here him moaning to the media about not playing, he has been 4th choice centre back for the last couple of seasons, name a team outside the top 5 or 6 that has a better 4th choice centre back than Anton gets some totally unfair criticism
Ferdinand 1 week will look like a world beater, the next week he would look like he'd be outplayed by my 5-a side team. He has undoubted ability and I'd give him half of the season coming up to prove himself and if he struggles up to xmas then let him go in January - if he proves his worth then keep him. He has, at times, looked an excellent player and this is the sort of player we need at the club. But at other times he's looked like the sort of player we want to give to them up the road. I guess you're a "I'm going to be negative no matter what" Duport as all of your posts appear to be negative instead of optomistic..

I guess your probably a Sunderland 606 debate fan that has gone to about 3 games in his whole life but likes to think he's a die hard fan by talking rubbish on here!
Don't know what Bruce makes of him, but he doesn't get many games, and if these signings come off, he will be further down the pecking order. He probably still won't winge or owt, ok not the best, but a decent pro. Gets on with it when given the chance, sometimes good sometimes ****e. And if he does go, well i wish him well, will do a club a decent job given the chance. But he's going no-where yet. He may suprise us yet if given a run.
You asked if there's a better 4th choice defender outside the top 5 or 6 and I said is there another 4th choice defender outside the top 5 or 6 that has been brought for 8million answer the question!?

I love him as a player but his age and fitness is now a problem. George McCartney?? Just because Ferdinand isn't worth his original inflated price tag doesn't mean he's not up to the grade - different owners, manager and backroom staff at the club at theis time
I don't see why the price matters at all and it wasn't like he was signed as 4th choice he was signed as first choice but since then we have improved the side and Anton has slipped down the pecking order. If we had initially gone out and spent 8m for Anton to come in as 4th choice then that would of been crazy but he wasn't. So I still say is there a better 4th choice centre back at other clubs than Anton I say no, its not about having just a good Xl its about having a good squad and IMO its good that when the injuries occur that we can call on a player of Anton's ability to step in to plug the gap.
Just a quick question gbsafc, sorry, duport, I have no propblem with you coming on with a controversialy written post but why make up a new account to do it. Be brave my man, stand up in your real name if its what you believe.
He was Nuffeild the other night Syd, unless all 3 of them now work at Betfair in Gibraltar.. Same IP, all 3 , i stored them the other night for reference.
