That would be a nice little scenario. It does make you wonder why Shalke are taking on another CB ?

The Independent are reporting that we have bid £15.6 Million for Gundogan.

I mean he's a quality young player but not exactly what we need. He's basically a better version of a young Arteta.
Very good player, great running from deep with the ball, good distribution.. not going to improve us 'defensively' though.

Small player who's good on the ball?

Injury prone and only played 15 games in last season and a half?

Sounds exactly like a Wenger signing to me.

I think Gundogan is a very good player, granted I haven't seen much of him recently, but he is very highly rated. He is like a long term Arteta replacement. Though he isn't a beasty physical player, so this would probably mean we still need to add a DM in the summer!

To be honest he's basically the German Wilshere.

I mean I would take him because he has TOP class ability (and Arteta/Rosicky are getting on) but its not exactly the signing our squad needs.

Any idea why there haven't been signings yet? Are we in for the standard last-day agonising hope?

    So far Wenger has said..

"We don't need any signings in January"
"If everybody is fit then we don’t need to go into the transfer market"
"We are short at the back"
“Without any doubt. If we find the right player we will do it.”

So ..who the **** knows? If we do sign anyone it will be on the last day.

No point stressing, you know how we roll in the transfer market. Any bargains to be had, then we'll come in for some. But there isn't any real emergencies at the moment so we'll be getting a cover CB at best. No idea why people are talking about DMs and Strikers.

Because we need them both. Would have thought that would be obvious...

What we want and what Wenger wants are two separate things. So we need to be realistic and in my view, we'll be in for a CB or some bargain/youngster.

But January transfer window rumours are also 99.99% of the time not what Wenger does so why have this thread at all then?

So we have stuff to talk about, no? Always nice to have some hope. We all know in the end we'll get another Kim Kallstrom type signing.

Yeah that's kinda what i meant by the reasoning behind people saying we needed a DM and a CF. Everyone can see that but all we do is say it in hope because we almost know for sure that inept management will mean we don't get them. I'm saying this in the hope I get egg on my face come 31st January...:)

Not that I disagree with us needing a DM or a Striker, but Wenger has rarely taken the initiative to bring those extra players in. He just isn't ruthless enough to cut loose those that aren't quite there. Take a risk or two maybe? Only time he's actually gone out there and went for a gamble was Arshavin. We were struggling up front and he went out and bought a top player. The gamble paid off.

Wilfried Bony: Man City complete £28m signing of Swansea striker
Manchester City have completed the signing of Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony for £28m.
Bony has agreed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Etihad Stadium and will wear the number 14 shirt.
"It's a great feeling for me, it's a big honour to be here and it's a great challenge," the 26-year-old said.

I don't think the argument for a new striker holds soo much weight now.

Alexis looks on course to get 25-30 goals this Season.
    Giroud will probably get 15-20
A fully fit Walcott will also score plenty of goals.

The Big man up top with Alexis and Walcott interchanging around him could end up being a very effective front three.
