I read somewhere Pardew said he tried to get Rickie but was told that he was going to stay and fight for his place in the squad. Good on him if so. Id prefer to see him playing but hope he's satisfied with his place.

''Forster is still as much of a liability as he is an asset''

I'm as easy going as you can get, but I'm not having that. He could only be an equal liability if he kept throwing the ball into the net. He is part of the best defence in the PL. He may not be perfect, but he is a damn fine keeper.

Spot on Fran. Too much **** and drivel written about Forster. Keepers do not stop everything. I've said it before; he has cost us one goal as he was at fault for the villa goal. Anything else is being picky and happens with all keepers.

Reactions: Saints Fan4Life
"There was a game at SMS not all that long ago where he was distracted by a bird on the pitch for quite a significant amount of time considering the ball was in play."

This cracked me up. The mental image just made me start giggling....Reminds me of Homer Simpson.

If everyone who has posted feels the sames as I do the surely the 'footballing' staff at the club know we have no decent back-up between the sticks and ultimately an injury to Forster without at least an adequate replacement will cost us dearly in a what is turning out to be a very important season.

It would be a crying shame if we end up 7th or somewhere and it is partly due to having to play Kelvin or Gazza (shudder) in goal for four or five games.

After all we all remember last season don't we?...

Which to me would indicate that those Utd fans had no idea what they were signing. Brilliant defender, but can't do anything going forward. It's not exactly Shaw's fault that Utd were willing to pay £30m for that. Utd fans should look at their board if they have issues with Shaw, not at Shaw himself.

United have screamed of a club without a leader and no clear strategy. Just chucking money at the most high profile players they can and a hope it will work.
They obviously have the individual quality still because they're near the top, but they're far from maximising that quality.

Osvaldo to Genoa. He sinks lower down the Serie A pyramid

Plus , if it was true, the club could just say no again, and i doubt Morgan would throw his toys out of the pram again, especially when he is having his best ever season imo.

I suppose it hasn't escaped anyone's notice that every player and staff who has left Saints, since the end of last season, up until now, work for a club who are lower in the Premier League table. And if form continues the way it has gone, then it will stay that way.

Defoe will get 80k a week on a 3yr deal at Sunderland.

The rumor is that Jozy Altidore will be sent to Toronto in a swap deal to make a the wages more affordable. Defoe will do better than Jozy but a 3yr deal for a 32 year old who will have no resale value is quite a gamble.

Saints £15m Interest In Rafa Silva?
Late last night the media started suggesting that manager Ronald Koeman has 'rekindled' his interest in 21 year old midfielder Rafa Silva.

The player plays for Braga and was apparently a target during the summer, but it might be the time of the day, but I don't remember that link myself.

The Mirror amongst others say we are planning a £15million bid for the talented youngster and we want him to come in and boost our Champions League hopes this season given our victory over Manchester United and where we find ourselves in the Premier League table.

The 5ft 7in player has scored twice in 16 league appearances for his current club in the Portuguese league, and he's said to have three years remaining on his current deal after signing a five year contract back in the summer of 2013 - hence the high fee.

Following our supposed interest in the summer, although we apparently chose not to bid, he has now earned three caps for his country and was in Portugal's 23 man squad for the World Cup over the summer

The funniest thing about the Morgan to United rumour is some United fans on another site saying "he isn't United quality" and the best one "I don't think he's better than we what we already have" <laugh>

I definitely agree that there is a lot of drivel written about Forster but it's difficult not to blame him for Van Persie's second at St. Mary's.

Marry in haste, repent at leisure. That could apply to the January window...never buy now what you wouldn't buy in the summer. I understand clubs' desperation when facing relegation (but they must consider if the player is suitable for the Championship should the worst happen). Can they afford to pay them in the Championship?
