Like the sound of that, he's criminally underused at City and with Bony looking likely to join will probably be fourth choice for the rest of the season. He also likes to play as secondary striker so he could play off Sturridge and he has a decent record 8 in 21, not brilliant but alright considering the minutes he gets at Etihad. And at least he's hit the back of the net.
Would love Jovetic but I do have concerns over his fitness. Quality young player who would fit our system though.
Bad news - apparently Skrtel has been offered a new deal. Which means we'll have to put up with more mediocre defending for a few more years.
If Skrtel is 2nd to last choice (Talking Centre Backs only) that means there is only 1 worth keeping. Toure, Lovren and Skrtel all really need to go in the next couple of years, along with Coates. Sakho is the only one in the current squad to keep, Ilori & Wisdom to be squad next year and we really could do with two new quality CB's replacing the three above.
I agree long term...I just feel a squad/team should be built slowly - weakest link at a time. Skrtel is not our weakest link, so should remain until he is so.
At the moment, he is the weakest link in our defence (that's if Lovren or Johnson arent starting). And I agree that there are others that should be shipped out first but that's not the issue. It's the fact that we're offering a new contract thus committing him to more years at the club. He should have no future at this club. The only time he has ever looked good is in under performing liverpool sides which sat deep. This style of defending masks inefficiencies and Skrtel has got away with it. Since playing in a more expansive style, hes been found out.
So Johnson and Lovren need replacing first then - John's contract runs out anyway so he'll be off. We also badly need a new keeper. Gerrard is leaving in the summer. We need another striker. Lucas may well be off to Italy too. That's 4/5 players already who need replacing before we even look at shipping Skrtel out. Too much change is really not good, as we've seen this season so far ourselves. He's not brilliant, but he's alright when played next to an organiser. We shouldn't be so eager to get rid right now - he has to stay for at least one more season whilst the new defensive unit gets to gel together.
When does his contract actually run out? i'm just not convinced we should be offering him another 3-5 year contract on the basis that we want to avoid disruption. He's part of the reason why our defence is sh*t. We've taken Johnson and Lovren out and we look a better. We should continue to do the same with the other weak links in this team. We may actually progress as a club once we do.
Few outlets reporting that clubs are interested in Rickie Lambert. Would anyone sell him in January? ...
Yes. He doesn't really fit our style and if we can get money for him to fund someone else I'd go for it.
YES I am not sentimental about footballers Delighted Gerrard will see out his aged legs elsewhere and Rickie should never have been bought If he is bought the stick badontelly down as sub in his stead and buy someone Hopefully borini also ****s off. I was just thinking today... Really if we bought lambert before Suarez went then my view would be borini + balotelli + lallana = one 50 mil player and about 160k per week wages I would say that shows the issue. I'd simply have kept Ibe and used him and bought a top player if I could
Yeah, agree with all that. I just don't agree with buying player after one decent season. Berahino's not even had that yet.
I'd say they have to sign him for £14m in the summer or no deal.. we all know what will happen otherwise. They'll take him on loan, not take up the option then we'll get bids of less money to buy him permanently
Shovel that turf out the door! Right this autocorrect on this site is awful I had written turd here not turf
Agree. Make it a loan to buy, like Citeh have done with Negrado (where are Valencia getting £24m from??). Time we put our foot down with these Italian clubs
Palace and West Brom are the ones after Lambert, apparently. Poor sods. Other rumour i've seen this morn is Balotelli to Napoli to help fund a double swoop on Higuain and Sergio Romero... BIG yes please to that
