You seem to be playing Gerrards LA Galaxy games in your mind before he's kicked a bal in anger for them Diego. I've seen enough MLS(some first hand)to know he'll do OK over there. But its all about opinion and you've got yours and I've got mine, Mano the LA Galaxy/Manc is sick as a dog they've signed him but let's see how it goes for the lad before passing judgement.
Money, a change of scenery, a new challenge, in that order, but if what he said was on the nail LFC leaving a void in contract talks between July and November made his mind up for him, I thought he'd be gradually worked out of the first team and eventually get a job with the backroom staff or become a paid ambassador, but good luck to him what ever happens.
I can't see any decent Premier League player having to much trouble in the MLS. Let's be serious here, Robbie Keane is an ageing Irishmen and he is bossing it out there, so I don't see Gerrard having to many issues with the pace of the game or the heat. Each team has a few good players, that are past there best, and the rest are fairly average players. The league as a whole is probably worse than League 1 over here
Reality check If Gerrard doesn't actually go do a lampard here he will be MVP by seasons end over there when as we know will be long enough away that all this will be forgotten Mls.... Lads let's get ****ing real here... There are players this year on between 50 and 100k per year (dollars) playing for galaxy and it's only the two designated players that have the millions It is ridiculous to claim these guys will play at a pace and intensity of a league where the average wage is now 43k per week If you can tell me that while the majority will be pros but a significant chunk if the squad has to flip burgers to live that this is a recipe for Gerrard to struggle.... Well I'd love to see it
Oh and the only premise I'd entertain here is if the lad goes off and doesn't bother with fitness, gains pounds and just looks like he's not bothered Wesahould all be able to recognise that.... It's very clear robbie Keane didn't do this but that some playing over there have
are you saying christian erikkson has had no impact whatsoever on spurs? I'm willing to totally agre harry kane has been a huge boost to spurs compared to soldado and a big part of it. My point was also that the new spurs coaching team has taken a while to find its feet and get its message in but you can see it now in the never give up attitude I would say that yes harry kane is a part but equally the class of erikkson is showing and the management style is coming into itself too. Is your point that gerrard has a lifting affect at anfield then??? ................... my other point is lfc fans keep pointing to spurs away... well we won 3-0 but they were poor on the day too. If we had the same team out or even the team of today playing better we'd not beat spurs 3-0 now away cos they look like they have solved thier issues the same point applied to swansea as frankly the swans have some mental thing at anfield in particular but are also weaker on the road so they turned up at anfield and sat right off us.. If we'd beaten swansea (6-2-2 home record) at their gorund 4-1 playing well without gerrard i'd say yes ok thats a good showing of why gerrard's mobility affects us.
If you want to see the effect of good coaching, watch Atletico Madrid. Their performance last night was incredible given they were playing the most expensive team in world football. Drilled, disciplined and street smart. Even the youngsters came in and didn't look out of place - probably explains how Manquillo is already so mature in his defending at such a young age. We need proper coaching/coaches at this club. I fear Rodgers is too stubborn to accept help on defending and structure, and is better suited at coaching just the attack.
manquillo was diving in all over the place in august. he's improved in his time here. i find that rather than just praise atletico that a lot of spanish teams are similarly drilled.... sure we look like we are never coached at all but there you go... what can you say... i doubt they ask thier players to play 5 formations and 6 different positions as we have with stelring, henderson, can, markovic....
Defending and attacking as a team is an art and they are very good at it, despite spending little money and consistently losing their best players. Winning the title in a league where only Barca and Real are 'allowed' to win it is incredible. Would love Simeone at this club (even as a player!).
they are indeed... but then i think seeing seville winning the europa means many Spanish teams are... no disrespect to atletico meant of course. They have however had a long development where they treated the europa with respect and won it twice... and simeone has been the final piece that instilled real belief. I think thats one thing that LFC doesn't have... perhaps for a brief while form feb to april last year we got it but the moment suarez went i think ti went too.... BIG mistake not replacing him. atletico replaced torres with aguero, aguero with falcao and falcao with costa... now they have Antoine Griezmann and.Mario Mandžukić we have been linked and look at griezmann for 5 years... nobody had the bottle to pony 10mil for him... so far 17 games, 8 goals in la liga and 25 games 11 goals overall.... 24mil fee there.... still cheap. just maybe they have brains where as LFc have scouts they don't listen to and no brains. the last ten years of main line strikers for atletic have fetched in massive fees for them to spend on and now they have one of the top young lads that is bound to eventually end up transferring for another massive fee. torres, aguero, falcao, costa..... griezmann.... think about it...
Griezman is not a striker. I don't think I'm a fan of Atletico, every time they play either Barca or Madrid it's turns into a 0-0 or 1-0 bore fest and when the first goal goes in it turns dirty. It doesn't really excite me and the game last night was no exception.
no but he's scoring the goals isn't he? He was touted to us as a winger... but.... how many wingers do we know who bcome central players... like oh henry, sterling, silva, and the like.
This is the problem - we decided to spunk £40m on Lallana, Lambert and Balotelli. Our marquee signing of the summer was Lallana. How embarrassing is that.
When you're a 'smaller' club, constantly losing your best players each year, cheap squad - I'd take a 0-0 or 1-0 against the bigger clubs. And then I'd ensure we beat all the other smaller clubs. This is what Mourinho has made a living out of - he's not concerned with the big games - he just wants to make sure he doesn't lose them. There are more games against smaller clubs than big clubs. And I used to be in the same boat as you - I loved aggressive, expansive football. But I now appreciate smart, tactical football. It's a real skill to be able to defend and attack as one, cohesive unit. Watch Atletico Madrid and you'll see that they make very few mistakes. And most of the successful teams in football history are built on solidity - well, the teams who enjoyed sustained periods of success certainly did. You cannot win titles without a solid back 4 - it's fact. There are very few exceptions to this rule, bar Man United a few seasons ago. As much as I enjoy Rodgers's attacking football, he's far too limited in his approach - consistent negligence of his defence is costing us and there are no signs of it every improving - going by his entire managerial career.
you are right.. thats what mourinho does.. goes hard at smaller teams racks up points then sets out not to lose against the top 4 by playing for one goal. You are also right that the number of successful teams built on great attacks and not much defense can probably be counted on one finger... elt alone one hand... and utd a few seasons ago lucked into a scenario where rvp scored and rescued a lot of points but there was actually a complete disintegration of any challenge. city fell apart, cheslea where nowhere... so.... barca are prob the only real side to do it and they did it by denying possession utterly to sides rather than simply attacking all the time.
