I've got 27 years NHS experience, my wife has 22 years experience and my ex has 27 years. 76 years in total.
My youngest was admitted into Kettering on Boxing Day, after falling over and hurting his back. With a pre-existing prolapsed disc problem, he was screaming in agony for 6 hours.
To cut a long story short, we were all stunned by the appalling care my son had for 4 days. It was only down to the fact that between my ex, my wife and myself, knowing how the system works, that we literally bullied the doctors to give my son the care that he needed. Just to note, the nursing staff were great. It was the medical staff that shocked us do much.
It was a devastating insight for the three of us, who have spent so many years working in the NHS to see it at its worst!
On the upside, (a) my son is okay, didn't aggravate his back problem, just has another back injury to recover from, and (b), it's my birthday! Another ****ing year older and still no wiser!

Cheers Funk. Just back from the pub. Got my wife down there with me. She had a major "women's" op just before Christmas so it was great to get her out the house for the first time as well. Great start to the new year! Onwards and upwards!

Good luck for your lad tomorrow! I know I just had a pop at the NHS, but it's still the best healthcare in the world! Proud to work in it. Hope your lads bouncing around and back at the SoL making a prat of himself like the rest of us as soon as possible!

I work for the NHS and had a conversation with an ambulance driver last month.
He stated that he had 2 call out's in the same day - both for heart attacks.
He arrived at the first one in 8 minutes and 4 seconds - he saved the patients life and they have now had a bypass and are recovering
He arrived at the second one in 5 minutes and 52 seconds - he tried but couldn't save the patient - they died in the ambulance.
The first one, where the patient survived, is seen as a failure
The second - he was commended for it as a success.
This, IMO, is the biggest problem with the NHS at the moment - too many "targets" and not enough "Patient Care".
An Ambulance driver should care only about the patient he or she is trying to save - they should not be made to feel they have failed when they save the life of a patient. Same in every other walk of the NHS - patients should come first but, sadly, targets do. I understand the "Get there early and stand more chance of saving a patient" but the cut off is 8 minutes - that's when it becomes a failure. Crazy IMO

Is the cut off time still 8 minutes? I wonder if they make it more minutes, say 20 for Manchester, or if this is a national thing.
The public sector is too damn soft for it's own good, they need to harden up and stop being so pathetic, sack half of their office staff and increase the staff that actually ****ing matter. That would offer incentive to actually try a bit harder in school and get a proper qualification for the dumb ****s who end up working in offices 'doing admin'.
HM Forces, the Home Office and the NHS is riddled with fat, lazy ****ing bastards who 'too sick for duty' ****ING FAT mate, you're too fat for duty.
They should be shot.
I actually don;t know Terry - I'm a union rep so not sure about other parts of the country.
As for the sentence I bolded - absolutely ****ing spot on mate. I know a lad who broke his leg and took six months sick - as you're allowed six months on full pay. I had to "support" him as a union rep and it went against almost everything I stand for to do it. I told the union I was unhappy as the lad took the piss. I have had zero days sick in 2 years and only then because I had to have an operation due to problems with my eyes. It costs the taxpayer enough without me adding to it by taking time off for **** all!
Yeh mate I've seen the people stay off work on full pay for six months when they could have easily returned on less strenuous duties.
That's it mate, people abusing the system because it's too soft.
I can't stand people who go to any length to avoid work, but the people who allow this to happen are a million times worse.
I train with a fella who wears the Forrest Gump style leg braces, he's there every day, busting a gut and then straight to work, even though he's entitled to disability benefits and all sorts which would allow him to sit at home on the slack, doing **** all.
He's worth 100 of them fat bastards who spend their days hoovering cake, they disgust me more than anything else.
