He was turning into a stereotypical short Scotsman at his time with Celtic - although you can probably forgive him to a certain extent, since he never got credit for results against any other team in the SPL, with one obvious exception. That'll probably make most managers irritable after a short space of time.

The FA seriously need to rethink the retrospective punishment rules. Sterling effectively did the same thing Benteke did against us. Benteke gets a three match ban, yet Sterling doesn't get anything. Purely because one of the officials did not do their job properly.

Both Ipswich and Derby 2-0 up at the moment. It's getting really interesting at the top of the championship now. Good to see good and experienced footballing guys like Mick McCarthy and Steve McClaren doing well and also the up and coming talent like Eddie Howe, also doing well.
Definitely, if an incident is serious enough to give a minimum 3 game ban then why let them off on a technicality? Re-reffing games my arse, it's just an opportunity to right a wrong when reviewing violent conduct decision. If a panel can overturn a refs decision when a red is shown then they should be allowed to review any situation where a red isn't shown too.
Entirely agree. A wrong decision is a wrong decision, whichever way it goes.
In case you all missed it, the tap on the back of the head was breaking the same rule. If the FA did Sterling they had to do the Swans player too, the lino seen the tap and the slap and decided it was just a bit of handbags, ergo the FA could do nothing as an official seen it and decided not to take action. Had the lino not seen it then both players could have been done because Sterling's reaction was a result of the Swans player's actions. In this second context, the FA may well have let it go rather than ban another Swans player on top of the Shelvey ban.
Yes it was just a tap, but the rules clearly state no raising your hands to physically contact another player to slap or patronisingly tap either, in fact even the attempt to do so is usually a red card, contact its not required and player intent is irrelevant. On the flip side both Sterling and the Swans player could both have done a Rivaldo and rolled around looking to force a decision from the ref, nether did gladly, something at least.
What a load of guff. Slapping someone has always been violent conduct, tapping someone on the back of the head has never been violent conduct.
Yeah well, if you ever played the team sport and got wound up in a game against a player and he taps you on the back of the head, it's certainly provocation, it won't cause you any damage but clearly the rules state you cannot do that. If that doesn't sit right with you fine, who cares, you don't make or enforce the rules, thankfully the lino had bags more common sense than you, that's all I'll say.

There's no way that he could see where Fernandez put that hand.
Even if events went the way that you believe that they did, the officials still should've dismissed Sterling.
He took a swing at an opponent. There's no two ways about it.
The excuse is that they saw the Sterling incident at the time, but didn't see the Shelvey one.
That's completely wrong, as Shelvey was on the ball at the time. The ref was looking straight at him.
If they're claiming that they didn't see it properly, then that's also clearly true of the Sterling incident.
It's a total bottle job, as usual.

He can clearely see Ferns arm go out towards Sterling and tap him, I agree he cant see his hand but he knows what fern did, and seen what sterling did, and took no action, if you are saying the lino didn't know fern made contact with sterling, you couldn't be more wrong, the lino is even getting between them to prevent an issue ffs

There's absolutely no doubt that he committed a red card offence and hasn't been punished for it, for no apparent reason.

There's no logic in the decision at all and absolutely no consistency, which is the real issue.
He doesn't know where Fernandez has his arm or what he's done with it.
He can guess, but he certainly can't see it and can't give any punishment for it.
He clearly sees what Sterling does with his, though. Totally bottles it.

I prefer to see the positive, neither went down like they were shot to get the other sent off. Red cards for that would have been silly. Two players got a little hissy fitty.
In the end they made as much contact with each other. Red for both or neither imo. You can't raise your hands and make contact with another players head regardless of your intent, when you do that you risk being sent off or banned.
I know you guys like to use the "slap" "tap" distinction, which serves your argument, but Sterling didn't see it that way did he, he saw it as aggression and that's part of why that rule exists, no interpretation, just no raising your hands to make contact in that manner full stop.
Am sure you'd love to have seen Sterling banned because of your love for Pool but get real, it was nothing, the amount of discussion it has generated is hilarious. I remember many an altercation that started in school over a tap on the back of the head.

As a Swans fan I'll add to that. It was a red card all day long - but some crook in the FA has accepted a bung and Raheem walks away scot free. Simple really.
