Or perhaps it is the moustache itself? I can't think of anything other than beards around that time.

Moustache it is - the first recorded use of the word in English was in the 1585 translation of said book...

Cheers BB. Which animal has the highest tolerance against carbon monoxide and consequently needs the least oxygen to survive ?

Is it the bat? Am not sure about the carbon monoxide bit, but they do cope with higher levels of carbon dioxide, meaning less oxygen...

No, it's not the bat, but it does belong to the same botanical family.

This flashing green dot on our avatars is quite funny. On my avatar it looks like it's a solution to a spot the ball. On BB's it looks like a pain-relief commercial for dinosaurs. ;)

Great question, cologne, I love it. I've been reading all sorts of papers about bat evolution to avoid starvation by being more tolerant to hypoxia! Fantastic. Nothing too specific yet. I could guess at a mole, that's as close as I am at the mo' - but I bet I'm a miles away.<laugh>
Don't know the form for asking for clues, so if it's not the done thing please ignore. But... Is it a hibernating animal?

I'm going to guess at a whale. I'm going Cuvier's beaked whale as can make the longest dive.
