I thought he did well yesterday, injected some directness and I like him playing on the right. His decision making is dodgy sometimes, but that is the way of all wingers most of the time. Felt sorry for Vargas, he's not having a great time at the moment, needs a goal to boost his confidence. But at least both he and Hoilett take the player in front of them on.

I do concede that Hoilett hasn't always been great when started, but I wonder if that's because he's not been given a run of starts?
I can see the argument for using him as an impact sub and he made a huge impact yesterday.
What I don't understand is that Hoilett made a big difference when he came on yesterday whilst Fer was very poor all game........yet a thread is started on whether Hoilett is good enough and nothing is said about Fer's lazy looking performance.
I agree he's not the most intelligent player but his pace and width gives us much needed options. It's really noticeable how much the game opens up as soon as he comes on and we have an extra 3rd of pitch to play in. And if you're worried about mistakes in midfield costing us games then I think Messrs Barton and Fer are way ahead as risky options. He should start in certain games.

Strangely I think I'd start him in more away games as his pace can relieve pressure and give us an outlet.

You must have been watching a different game.
He gave the ball away in the dying minutes whilst using up time, running away into the corner, per instructions to do just that.
He injected impetus and attacking threat and his run and shot led to the corner which produced the winner.
I really can't quite believe what gets written on here at times.
Sorry, I was talking in general terms rather than yesterday's game and hoped I'd made it clear (otherwise I'd mention his "running down the clock" moments).
Can you honestly say that his goals and assists in his time here are sufficient for a player with such obvious talent? That was my point.
I can honestly say that, in a struggling team, I'd rather watch him in the side than many who get picked ahead of him in a wide position. When he was playing regularly at the start of the season and during pre-season he was getting a lot of plaudits.
Some people only seem to focus on his negatives rather than the positives in his game and some of the comments on his performance yesterday are a good example.
You are right that he is more entertaining to watch than most although I think it's reasonable to want an output that matches his skill.
I don't think that me suggesting that he's still a bit of a rough diamond is particularly negative. He works hard enough so I think there is an onus on our coaching team to try to get the best out of him.
What is most annoying about Hoilett is he is just a shadow of the player he was at Blackburn, some of the goals he scored cutting in and shooting on sight were brilliant, I can't recall him doing that once for us...
He's a confidence player. A lot of the crowd get on his back and it shows.
We all see things differently I suppose.
Vargas was very poor today and his confidence appears shot. Hoilett added another dimension to our game and he was a great outlet. I think that he worked his socks off and worked selflessly. He did give the ball away before they hit the woodwork but being the only player forward at the time we had 9 other outfield players whose job it was to defend the situation.
Have not read all thread so apologies if already said, but do agree with about a frustrating player but we have seen time after time that he makes great runs gets into perfect positions and then......................nothing just does not seem to be able to find another player or see whats happening around him. Even the BZ Wembley goal was a cross to the defence just turned out they didn't deal with it.

It's difficult not to tell people like you that they're talking **** though.
Fer had just about his worst game yesterday. He was lazy and always looked off the pace. I like him as a player and I think he's one of our best players on the ball. Without the ball he's very poor and that doesn't help when we're struggling down the bottom of the league.
I agree that he should never, ever be played out wide, but the problem is that he can't be played in a two man central midfield either.

Nothing? Like in the play off final when he battled and scrapped for the ball, won a challenge against a beefy centre back and then got the ball into the danger area? Most crosses are hit into an area and not pin-point passes.

If you shout your views on Hoilett 300 times its not going to make a blind bit of difference to other's opinions on him. It just makes you look stupid
To be fair, that applies to one or two on here, but that is the point of this forum, for people to voice their opinions.
