How do you rate Steve Bruce?

Based on a scale of 1 to 10, how do you rate Steve Bruce.

In the beginning I was not too impressed with Niall Quinn’s choice but neither was I totally disappointed. Like many others I accepted him as our Manager and vowed to support him.

However supporting him does not make him immune to criticism provided the criticism is constructive as oppose to some of the abuse he has been subjected to by some supporters.

To date he has [in my opinion for what its worth] done a reasonable job and he will transform us in to a good solid team.

Whatever the circumstances you can’t get away from the fact he has got us in to the best position in the league we have seen for years thanks to a fantastic first half to last season..

I’m still not sure if he’s the right man to take us all the way but time will tell. He’s certainly better than quite a few premier league managers and definitely on a par with Martin O’Niel who many would have preferred.

So to wind this up, on a scale of 1 to 10 I’m going to give him 7

Seven also, it swings from week to week to be honest but that is the nature of football, he was as high as 9 for me at one stage last season, couldn't get much better then dipping to a 4 then turning it round to a 6, his dealings so far this summer have bumped him up a notch for me to land on a 7.
 
This was done at the end of the season, i gave him a five then. So seeing as we havn't actually played any games get or done anything, nothing has changed, so it's still a five.
 
All I know is he is the best manager who we have had in over a decade. We should be happy that we have been able to build to where we can attract the likes of Bruce, who may not be the best manager (ala SAF or Wenger), but he sure as hell aint no Sgt. Wilko or Cotterill. Look at how the careers of SAF and Wenger were when they first moved to the then Premier League? SAF was going to get sacked after 3 years. Now look at what he did. He learnt, and built Man Utd into the global powerhouse they are today.

Like all things, it will take time. All the indications are there that Bruce can build a solid team. We have a brilliant chairman at the helm, and a business savvy owner... not a Russian oligarch who will mindlessly throw money at the team, and when he finally gets a champions league - will pull out of Chelski and then they will be in some serious financial troubles.

Teams like Chelsea and more so Man City will be in alot of trouble when the UEFA Financial Rules come into play. All these players moaning about not winning anything and wanting a move to Man City (not money orientated mind... aye right) are gonna be ****ed, cos Man City wont be allowed to compete in Europe if they manage to buy it next year. Then alot of those players are going to want out. And teams like Sunderland with their sensible owner, chairman and manager are going to be alot more appealing.

Just my 2 cents. I would give Bruce a 7 aswell, but I can see what he is trying to do for the future, and he isn't going to throw that away to blow out the budget when we could very well end up where we were back in 01/02.
 
I think we have to give him another season after this one considering the horrendous injury problems he has had. A 7 for me as well.
 
I'm gonna give him a 6, i feel we should have done a wee bit better last season given the start we had.

He's a 7 the instant he signs a decent left footed player, the most glaring thing we have lacked during his tenure, and still not sorted.

I think he's getting the balance right, and i think he'll score higher next summer.

We shall see, but overall, i'm comfortable with him, although i wasn't at various points last season (football eh....).

Very true, however I hear they're going to roll in the new regulations over a few years, maybe buying some of the super rich clubs a bit more time to sort out their finances ... or piss off and invest in something else?!

I heard they have given these few years as notice to get their **** sorted. They should have already been thinking about offloading the high earners, and minimizing wages and expenditure. Well, everyone it seems but Man Utd, Chelski and Citeh. Kinda defeats the purpose that they should introduce them, then do a U-turn and let them into Europe yet still be over extending themselves with their finances. UEFA needs to put some steel-toe boots on and kick the arses of these clubs that laugh at the rules. Arsenal might be in a little trouble now with players wanting out, but they will probably be best off when these rules come in.

And when the owners of Citeh and Roman figure that they can no longer spend money like its going out of fashion anymore, and can no longer just buy the Champions League.. they will leave. Then those clubs will go under verrrry quickly.
 
Problem with the financial fair play rules is that if it threatens the harmony of the really top clubs, they can just walk away from UEFA and start their own association, which other clubs will clamour to join, thus making them more powerful than they are now.

It could easily pan out this way.

I rate him on his performance as manager of Sunderland football club.... any other metric is silly ;) I'd give him 6.75 so far!
 
He has improved us each year and got us to 10th. Done what we wanted from him. His drawback is that it could have been so much better had he stopped the rot earlier. 7 from me so far. 9th place finish or above next season and he'll be higher!

The big problem is though, the top clubs dont have a problem with it well Man City do atm but CL football next season will put pay to that.

basically you cant spend more than your turnover, Man U made 280 million in turnover last year, and their wages were only 49% of that, we made 70 million or something, and our wages were 89% of it

So its the rest of the clubs that are going to struggle to get into Europe to even get a chance of increasing our turnover, to buy better players, on better wages, the likes of Man U will be fine for years to come and have no worries at all.

as to the ops question, 1st half of the season 9.5 result against the mags knocks it down from 10, 2nd half 7 (cant see him being to blame for all the injuries we had) so i would give him an 8.5
