    Classic.

Any coach should be able to do something with elite players. The challenge is doing something with players that are not. And now the rubber meets the road. He lost a considerable number of goals-for and has failed to reduce his goals-against - a fundamental failure in strategy. This should have been his number one priority. After all .... anybody .... even Dai .... knows that ... Balotelli + Lambert + many Soton Players <> Suarez nor anything close in terms of goals-for.

Using what happened to us as a yard-stick. Sousa finished one place higher than Martinez did without the goals of Scotland, Gomez and Bodde. So Sousa recognized the problem and coached his way around it. Rogers was his own tough act to follow, but he should still be higher up in the league than he is or at least should aim to be by the end of the season - if he can coach around his problem of reduced fire-power up front and a defense like a sieve. He still has time to turn it around - if they let him.

He's a football genius, Liverpool must not sack him.

I don't think he's peaked, maybe the Club itself has in it's expectations .To win the League now seems to be in the realms of the richest and although Liverpool are a big Club are they financially big enough. As Spurs did last season they've spent unwisely with the money from the sale of a truly world class player but 8 or 9 still won't replace that one ,It's a gamble as it's a team effort in most parts but it's that individual's talent who normally wins games and they've not replaced him aka Bale/Saurez.

Well, it could be argued that Brendan's appointment as Manager at Liverpool was based on his performance as Manager of Swansea rather than (necessarily) on abilities relevant to the Liverpool role.

Did he have experience of Managing a Club with World Class players (Suarez, Gerrard - arguable in Gerrard's case)?

Did he have experience of successfully spending enormous sums of money on players? Ballotelli, Borini, Lallana etc.

The Peter Principle states that people are promoted so long as they work competently. Brendan certainly did so at Swansea - getting us promoted to and keeping us in the PL.

However, sooner or later, people get promoted/appointed to a position at which they are no longer competent. Did Brendan live off Suarez' brilliance last year?

Simple answer no. Why do you think managing suarez is any different to managing any other player...

Dai - Suarez, per se, is nothing to do with the hypothesis - apart from the fact that his performances last year may have masked the fact that Brendan is managing above his capability?

The combination of Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling - in particular their goals tally driven by Suarez - overcame their poor defensive setup, rate of goals conceded and goals-against total. If you're able to score at will, being **** at the back doesn't much matter providing on any given day you can out-gun your opponents (i.e. a Martinez model). If you lose a ton of goal production then you must be better organized and perform better defensively - it's your only viable option (i.e. a Sousa model). Rogers to date has been unable to grasp the strategic difference and execute / coach the changes necessary. Sousa turned Monk / Williams / De Vries - who before Sousa collectively were total **** at defending crosses / corners etc - into a very tight unit. Rogers has not been able to effect the same transformation at 'Pool. This, IMO, is his coaching deficiency and laid bare for all to see. His coaching objectives are very simple, in fact there's only one, concede fewer goals. This would have a significant impact on his results and league position.

Exponents of Management Theory would suggest otherwise.

Additionally, I have been involved in running a professional sports club.

As such, you are incorrect on both counts!

QED in a nutshell ! Plus there was only one game a week which allowed maximum preparation time , both with analysis of opponents and injury management. In other words Brendan could not have been more fortunate. Have some rep .

Rogers has been sussed! It's all down hill from here. If the supporters finally get it, when do you think the players got it .... perhaps around the time he opened the envelope <whistle>

Liverepool are missing a top striker badly, I cannot believe Rodgers went with Balotelli? just shows how arrogant he has got to think he could put him back on the straight and narrow. What makes me laugh is to see Rodgers whispering to the Numpty Pascoe? Who doesn't have a clue about the game............<laugh>

Surely the bubble has burst now.
