I was hoping to see the back of Meyler this transfer window, but given that we aren't going to have much in the way of funds (just a hunch) and Diame's injury, he might be here for another year. If he plays well, I'll have no qualms about that, but if he continues as he has this season, we might as well just stick a youth player in there.

In an ideal world, my January transfer window would be:

Out

Meyler
Jakupovic
Figueroa
Dudgeon
Ramirez (loan return)
Bruce
McShane (riot squad in)
Sagbo

In

Matias Suarez - FW/AM - Anderlecht
Igor Vetokele (might be a bit expensive, he only signed a five year deal in the Summer) - ST - Charlton
Another GK, preferably a British one. David Button at Brentford and Alex Smithies at Huddersfield are both having decent seasons, the former signed a new deal in June so Smithies would probably be the better option.
As we'd have freed up a loan spot, I'd try and get Patrick Bamford in from Chelsea for the rest of the season, just to give the attack some back up.

If my pipe dream came to fruition, that'd give us Hernandez, Jelavic, Vetokele and Bamford as strikers, Aluko, Ben Arfa, Suarez, Brady, Ince and Snodgrass as our attacking midfield/wide options, Livermore, Huddlestone, Diame, Quinn as the CM options, the defence just becomes Robertson, Elmo (who I suppose is attacking) Rosenior, Maguire, Dawson, Davies and Chester and our goalkeeping options become McGregor Smithies/Button and Harper. It's a pretty balanced squad that should see us through to the Summer.

The above, however, won't happen. Of course it won't. I think we'll see a striker come in, and maybe somebody leave, but that aside I can't see it changing much.

We have the players - we just need to play the right ones in the right way.

Let's put some midfielders in the team, rather than the technically gifted but ineffective Huddlestone + Livermore.

Something like:

Rosie Chester Dawson Robertson
-----Livermore-Meyler---------
-Elmo ---- Quinn ------ Brady
----------Jelavic--------------

Would have a good go against the likes of West Brom.

Meyler and Quinn playing centrally would do things other than passing the ball out to the wing, and they would also win the ball in midfield sometimes rather than backing off and containing.

The threat on the wings is still there, but Meyler can run forward with the ball, and Quinn can make an incisive pass. Things which Huddlestone and Livermore never do.

Hang on did you just add meyler to the list of 'technically gifted' players....He is another keith Andrews. He was terrible on saturday. AGAIN! Did anyone see in the last minute when he had the opportunity to sprint forward but instead passed it back. I've never seen the man get past a jog. Terrible

You haven't seen much, have you?

Whilst I agree with the sentiments. I think the term poodle is overused and pretty cringeworthy term, usually used by people who have an overinflated sense of how important their support to the club is or used by the 'I was there when we where ****' brigade.

couldn't agree more!

but they are better fans, don't you know?

Serious, measured words from an ex-senior player. Do you see any comparisons :

"Liverpool are "rudderless" and "going backwards just as fast as they went forwards last season", according to former player Mark Lawrenson.

Lawrenson says he is baffled by some of the team selections and accuses manager Brendan Rodgers of changing his side "like he does his socks".
