I can't go along with all these people criticizing Bruce's tactics and team selection. He has a team of advisers with him and together they analyze each game as it comes along and make, what they consider to be, the decisions with which they hope to get a result. To say that he is 'playing someone out of position' is not taking into account the consultation he and his advisers have with the team Captain and the player himself. He doesn't put the team up on the board with McGreggor playing as a Striker for a change (although this might get better results - that's a joke Ethel) without this consultation.
Ben Arfa has not fitted into the team imo as he likes to 'go-it-alone' and I think he will be sent back. Rodriguez is another who appears lost to me and I wouldn't be surprised if he is sent back too depending on who is available for loan in January.

Then he needs some new advisers, some of his team selections have been poor and many of his substitutions have been utterly appalling.

Rodriguez is brilliant, though as Real Madrid paid €80m for him, you'd expect him to be.

Taking Ben Arfa off because he was ineffective and replacing him with arguably our most ineffective players doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Ben Arfa is hardly going to perform if you dont play him and when you do you play him out of position.

play him in the right position.. and don't defend like bruces' deep pan of lard and we might be more ****ing effective

i find it funny a year ago the sunderland fans predicted this.. and it's come true <laugh>

As for Ben Arfa he can stay on bench for me. That is IF he can make the bench anytime soon.

Alan Pardew and many of the toon fans are sadly correct on HBA.

If Ben Arfa seriously believes that he's got one last chance of joining a major European side, in his mind we are just a stepping stone, then he needs to prove his worth. His application was awful on Saturday, as bad as it was when Pardew lost his rag with him. Bruce was spot on to humiliate him like he did. I hope that he read him the riot act and threw a range of objects at him, including hairdryers, shoes and a really angry Pit Bull.

It was all the more frustrating in that the soppy French twonk had been putting the effort in, in previous games, whilst been played out of position, in a role he's unsuited to and with no support.

He needs benching, then unleashing with 30 minutes to go, with the message ringing in his ear 'it's now or never, you petulent, French show pony. Do it to them, do it good. Make them flap in your wake. Drive on, Hatem, drive upwards. Up Helly Aa! Forward, burn and destroy.'

Or whatever words Bruce deems suitable.

Possibly in French. Or through a translator.

It was a joke, though it obviously gave you a good way of avoiding the point I made.

Chuckle!
No I don't avoid other posters points. The next game we win I'll bet that posters make no reference to Steve Bruce and his team tactics and/or selection. They will instead rave on about one or two of the players.
I believe that he has a thankless task at the moment with no strike force. He brought in a 10 million quid player who some fans are already describing as 'the invisible man' because he is nowhere to be seen. Injuries to key players have made the task almost impossible. When we can field a team consistently, with all our key players (including Snodgrass), and they start to 'bond', then we will be able to hold our own.
I don't know about you but I feel that we need another striker as other EPL teams are showing their contempt for our attack.

We have Sagbo, get sagbo up front with jelavic and play ben arfa and brady off them! Brucey has to start playing what he's got in their favoured positions, it's quite simple really!
