Never understood why he joined us or why we signed him...at the time we had berbatov, keane and defoe. He scores but does sod all else...ipswich and charlton relegated, spurs suffered with him and improved when we got shot of him, sunderland did ok with him and villa were **** with him.
I thought Berbatov had shot his bolt but he seems to be doing ok at Monaco.I bet he's living in luxury there........
Neither could Martin Jol. Jol said to Comolli that, if we sold both Mido and Defoe, we'd need another striker as backup to the Keane/Berbatov partnership that was working so well. Comolli somehow translated that as "Please piss away £16.5m on a player who expects to start games, which would mean messing around with a striking partnership that's dug us out of a lot of holes last season" coupled with us only selling Mido. The advantages are he'll be cheap as he's out of contract at the end of the season, helps our HG quota, and if we do send Paulinho back to Brazil on loan he tops up the squad. The disadvantages are he's recovering from a shoulder injury, and signing players just because they;re HG or to fill a space in the squad is rather backwards. Delph may work as a Dembele replacement - but that would imply we were moving on Dembele in January as well.
I like Delph, for what it’s worth. He’d have to be content to be a squad player, though. I can’t see him starting most PL games. On the OT, I’m disappointed to see the Goons playing Southampton while we play Chelsea. The former game is interesting for any number of reasons. Very unfortunate that Southampton is coming off a disappointing loss and Arsenal a win they needed, but an interesting game nonetheless.
I don't see why we'd need Delph even for cheaps. Yeah he puts in a shift, which we do need at times, but i'd rather persist with what we have, especially promoting from youth
Yeah, I think it we can get Walker fit, and keep him fit, and Davies keeps coming on, we'll have two pretty decent full backs.
There's talk about Henry, having left the New York Red Bulls, going back to Arsenal. It makes sense. He's no longer cut out for soccer in the USA, but he ought to be able to get a regular starting slot up front for the Gunners.
I'd rather have Delph in our squad than Dembele, Paulinho and Capoue. We can't just keep leaving them out and playing Bentaleb and Mason every week. I'm a big fan of Delph and would love for us to sign him in January unless any of those midfielders I mentioned start performing well consistently for us.
