The one that stands out for me is American Beauty...From the title alone I had made my mind up that it was a pile of crap...However, when I finally got around to watching it I was completely taken aback and thought it was a cracking film..

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. This was on film 4 last week so I thought I'd sky+ it! Watched it yesterday and is a cut above compared to other films of its genre (horror comedy)
American Beauty is a cracking film mate.
The Cook The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover. budget British film with no hype, watched it as there was nowt else on, I now own it on DVD is one of my favorite all time films. It blew me away.
A couple of films that I recall - 1st one was True Lies - watched it at the Empire in London late at night (was pissing down in Leicester Sq and I wanted to kill some time) thoroughly enjoyed the movie (original & uncut version) humour and action plus Schwarzenegger was excellent - The second was Forrest Gump - took my wife to cinema to see a different film, but it was sold-out so whilst looking at the listings what to watch instead a young couple gave us their tickets for the Gump movie as they'd decided to go for a drink instead - the film didn't appeal to me or my wife - but what the heck they were free- both us really enjoyed the film
Usual suspects for me, just thought it'd be an average crim film but Kevin spacey & co killed it!
Murder In The First with Kevin Bacon, didn't even want to watch it but got hooked almost immediately.
Lone Survivor with Mark Wahlberg, loved every minute of it but thought it was going to be awful because of him.
Warrior, didn't think it would be **** but never imagined it would end up being one of my favourite films.
As for American Beauty, definitely not a film I enjoyed.

Forrest Gump is definitely another one that took me by surprise...Bloody great film...Another one which has come to mind is Toy Story 3..I reluctantly took my kids to the pictures to see it when it came out and thought it would be on the same lines as the 2nd in the trilogy which was pretty poor. However, I ended up with tears in my eyes near the end and was pleased it was dark in the cinema..
One I just started watching one night, not sure what it's called but it has Ian McKellen in it and he befriends a young lad and it turns out hes a former nazi. Was late at night and I was drifting off then it pulled me in and I watched it till the end.
Cast Away! The idea of watching Tom Hanks all alone talking to a volleyball had no appeal to me whatsoever but once I started watching it I enjoyed it!

In Bruges was the last one. Excellent, unsentimental, comedy.
Before that, Tremors. Though it would be a ****e schlocky horror, but it was top hole!

Legends of the Fall (Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins) - a bit slow at first but I thought it was excellent.
Same as Diddles the film we wanted to watch was full so just went in to see addicted to love with Meg Ryan pissed myself laughing at the french lad who was allergic to strawberries.

It sat on my DVD shelf for ages.
When I eventually got round to watching it I almost put the telly through the wall.

Certainly put a different perspective as to what went on in these death camps and the people who were running them...I found that as the film went on, I sort of knew what was going to happen, but I still didn't want to believe it would, and then it did..
Absolutely & this may sound harsh but I found it a bit of poetic justice in the end.
