This board has become too strained with those supporting Wenger and those who want a change. The inevitable will happen sooner or later, Wenger will have to go. Everybody in life has a purpose and his was making Arsenal financial stable. He's done that so for me his job is done. Arsenal will move on after him like we moved on after George Graham. The club is bigger than any one man.

True, i think everyone accepts that wenger is going at some point. But i think theres a debate about whether itll be easy where a fat sam/avb type can do just as well tsking over, or whether itll be a massive change in philosophy, culture and team make up that will need careful planning
The funny thing is we made a huge philosophy change by bringing in Wenger and we all know how he revolutionised football in England. We must not be fearful of change and I'm sure Wenger would agree with this. But when you have a safety first board in place then things will never likely change. Wenger is good enough to carry on for another 3 years and get those top 4 markers. If you was a business man Smirnoff, would you change anything? We all know what the answer to that would be.
Couldnt agree more, we should embrace change, tho of course we need to make sure that its a positive change and not an ill thought out/prepared change.

This was a time when there was only 1 super rich club, not 3 and wasnt as much competition. Its why we need to get the decision on Wengers replacement spot on, or we'll be in for a rough time...

You are right, that's why change needs to be managed carefully. I just hope that they are thinking of them now and doing this with Wenger so that when we do change that we do it the right way. The last thing we want is Wenger leaving and not having a proper backup plan. A step in the right direction would be to reduce Wenger's powers and bring others in to manager the more business side of things. Have a kind of David Dein type who will challenge Wenger/Board football wise. These are proactive steps that WE should be doing now. The last thing we want is to turn into Spurs, Pool or Manure....
I couldn't agree more, and I'm praying that we'll hear of the appointment of a David Dein-type director before the end of the season. This will give us the time to restructure the club and reduce the duties on Wenger/his successor, so that when he does leave in 3 years the new manager can jump straight in and have some support/guidance .

I think maybe Smirnoff was saying that the requirements for keeping hold of 4th place have gone up, and as Arsenals revenue and infrastructure has improved, the requirements for achieving 4th have gone up with it? Maybe.....I think.
Which is fair to a degree, Chelsea and City changed the PL landscape in that United were the only team you had to feasibly compete with every season before we were infused with Roman's money.
But Cini's rather simple point is that Arsenal are spending more and more every year, to achieve the same result (4th place, one trophy every decade), and surely if the level of investment and quality of players increases, should it not be reasonable to expect improved results and performances on the pitch as a result of this?
And he is questioning why you were spending more to achieve the same, which is an equally fair and legitimate question.

My thoughts on the managerial situation is that with wenger we are guaranteed top 4 and offers us stability but doubt we will push for the prem or champions league but without him we could either win the league or end up 6th. So I'm going to be honest and say I don't know what I want I'm a bit scared of change as I don't know what It would do to us
Spending more does not guarantee success or trophies but it does allow you to compete. A Chelsea fan trying to give a lesson on how to spend is like taking financial advice from a bankrupt company. What do Chelsea know about spending what you earn?
Quite a bit in recent seasons actually.
But again you have missed the point, whether the money was gifted, income from matches or found down the back of the sofa is beside the point.
The point is, if you spend a large amount of money on the squad, then you should expect an improvement in the teams fortunes.
Which there has been... and please don't bother with the 1 cup per decade when you waited 50 years for uncle Roman to juice you.
Wenger is going to go at some point, so the club need to start preparing for that. The issue I have is with people who have got so flustered with Wenger that they would appear to want to change him for anybody just to see the back of him. That in my book is negligent and shows an ill conceived judgement.
There's evidence all around us with other clubs to show that not getting it right when appointing a new manager can be catastrophic, unless like the chavs, or city you just buy your way out of trouble. But even then you have managers like AVB and Rogers who were hailed the next big things and were given £100m+ to spend on their squads and yet their teams have still gone backwards.
It's vitally important that we get it right when the time comes, of course there will always be the element of risk and the unknown, but that's not the same as throwing it all up in the air now in the blind hope that it all lands in the right places. We need to be as meticulous as we can be in getting the right successor.

Can't say I've got much sympathy for those who moan and then decide to leave on the back of a Wenger criticism thread that's designed specifically to have a moan.
Okay I better stop this conversation now then, a lost cause.
Also keep trying to deflect too, such an awesome and not at all transparent attempt to move the spotlight off your clubs current shortcomings, which was the topic of discussion.
Feel free to make a separate thread for Chelsea if you wish and I will join in that one.

There might be an overall improvement, but there isn't any improvement in the top teams. In fact you could argue that all of Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City (this season), have all got worse. Chelsea are way ahead due to their consistency against everyone, but far from untouchable.
Have we become a better team? No, as our record against the top teams is significantly worse than the 00's. However our record against the lesser teams has improved and become more consistent.
