Tomorrow is the first step in my bid to kick the evil cigs. Anyone on here after successfully quitting and how did ye do it, patches, gum, cold turkey or the inhaler thing? Lastly how long do you reckon it takes before you start noticing an improvement in your general health?
1. Gave up cold turkey. I wont lie, it wasn't easy but I think mentally it's the best way to do it. I'd given up a couple of times before using patches but ended up back on the cigs within a year. Since quitting cold turkey I haven't smoked in six years. 2. I set myself a target of two weeks. I knew if I could get past that I would never smoke again. So far, so good. 3. You notice the change pretty quickly but I suppose it depends on how many you smoke. 4. Please don't think you'll be better off financially. You'll just end up spending the money on some other **** instead! 5. Good luck.
i smoked for almost 20 years, tried to quit a few times but not for myself, failed each time one day decided it was enough, didnt bother with any aids, found smoking cessation etc useless changed my patterns, as in i smoked after meals, went for walk instead hardest thing i have done in my life, was a git to live with, worst side effects were sugar levels dropping, which lead to panic attacks etc and weight gain there is some mad shoite you get which they never tell you about and the symptoms carry on for months been smoke free for nearly 2 years (2 cigars no ***s in that time) well worth it taste etc returns its solid though and no one tells you the truth. internet forums were the best
Actually what thefan says about habits is very true. I used to smoke every time I had a coffee so it became habit by association. It took ages for me to get used to drinking coffee without having a cig.
Patches first. Go the full 10 week course with them. But also buy an inhaler. If you are out with friends and have the urge to smoke use that. I gave up a few months back and the night before I stopped I smoked 3 in a row. Felt a little ill after it but put me in the right frame of mind to give up. Sadly I didn't go through with the patches but I'm down to 2 or 3 a day now rather than 15. Was able to break the pattern in work so only have a smoke at night. Been smoking since I was about 13 so gonna kick the habit again and give them up after my July holidays. You will notice the difference within a week or 2. My sense of smell came back and it turned my stomach to sit beside a smoker in work. The biggest test for me is not smoking a **** load when I'm having a drink.
Read the Alan Carr book on how to quit. That's the gospel on how to quit smoking. He summarises all the reasons that we choose to smoke and patiently and persuasively deconstructs them. He advocates not using any substitute methods like patches, etc. That's basically subscribing to the illusion that you're "sacrificing" something by quitting smoking. You're not, and if you get into the right frame of mind from the getgo, it will be comparatively easy compared with the needless torture we put ourselves through using other methods. That said, I'm still going through two lighters a day but I never actually finished the book which is one of his dogmatic instructions.
edmund wants cymraeg's blood. he feels he's scuppered his bid for mod domination with scurrilous unfounded rumours.
cant remember the exact medical details without googling or something people dont realise that one of the things cigs do is affect your sugar levels, its part of the buzz if you like with me i got the shakes and had to eat a boiled sweet or something, scared me to be honest apparently very heavy smokers who just quit can actually develop diabetes from quitting can anyone confirm?
