Phil Neville is bloody horrendous. The worse thing is, he thinks he is important and really good at analysis. He isn't.

How can Phil Neville watch that performance by Ryan Bertrand and then say that Luke Shaw is the best left back in England, just because he had one shot on target?

From what I've seen of the game, ie, extended highlights, so far, I thought Bertrand had an excellent game. Indeed, halfway through I wondered if it had crossed Hodgson's mind to include him, if he finds a player bows out with an injury. Then I realised he would never be that flexible in his thinking.

Bertrand was absolutely outstanding yesterday. He didn't have much defending to do, but his crossing ability is scary. It won't be too long before the clueless hodgson realises he's better than Shaw like we all have. (On current ability. Shaw still has the potential to improve and improve)

I think you're being most unfair on Hodgson. If nothing else, he's shown many times already that he's very much his own man when it comes to squad selection. Being English and playing for Saints (or West Brom or other unfashionable clubs) doesn't automatically qualify a player for England selection, but under this manager we do know it certainly doesn't disbar him.

All the Hodgson bashing is a bit tiresome, frankly. Who in god's name would want that job?

England are dreadful, & Hodgson needs to take some responsibility for that. Begging Gerrard not to retire & over playing him in the worst WC for many a year. How dare you suggest the bashing stops. It must go on, if anything it needs to be louder. :)

It is your right as an Englishman to bash the England Manager.

But what I see is a thoroughly decent man forced to work with fairly mediocre material. Not sure anyone else would have done any better in Brazil.

You are too kind to him. I'm not a big fan of the national side, but he has made it more difficult to enjoy. And that last game in the world cup, when we were already out, & he states things will change, then brings Stevie G on in the 70th minute, that's when I knew. Fabio was more likeable & that's going some.

The last time I really enjoyed watching the national side was when we beat Germany 5-1 in Berlin. It's been a steady decline since then. Not sure who's to blame, but it's certainly not Roy Hodgson.

As for Gerrard, maybe he has gone at the game now, but I can understand why you would be reluctant to chuck away all that experience and commitment. The guy has a fantastic attitude when he's on the pitch, even if his body no longer matches his heart and mind.

I din't even watch the last game at the WC as I watched Italy v Uruguay instead as there was something to play for. I also have failed to watch any of the qualifiers or friendlies since.

Basically, the summer debacle where Hodgson picked our players for the WC then helped convince them to go to 'better' clubs, coupled with the fact that we really are crap at the moment, has taken all enthusiasm out of international football for me at the moment. I actually dread the international break as it means rather than a rest, our players may come back injured.

I lost all respect for Roy Hodgson when he blithely announced that Rickie was off to Liverpool after the last friendly before the World Cup. This was before Saints had announced the move. At that moment his personal involvement in the tapping up of our players was laid bare, and I will never trust the bloke again.
